i'm surprised none of the BMWs had active steer, and it felt heavy compared to all the other cars. the audi was a major let down, heavy and slow. the is250 had a very very light steering, but at the same time rolled pretty bad. the benz i didnt try, but it sounded nice.

and ofcourse i couldnt get enough of the 335 be it the diesel, xi, or the RWD.

after driving the 335D, it really makes me think twice, i like the diesel more than the normal 335i now haha.

At the test drive I went to there were everything from 1970's Volvos to new Porsche 911's - it was essentially luck of the draw.

That said, the Bimmers were the best vehicles to drive. The 335 and 335d were great fun (though a manual would have been nice). 2nd place goes to the C300 which sounded the best but wasn't quite as direct and had a soft brake pedal. Third was the IS250 which was underpowered and too soft. Last was the A4 which had a nice interior but had lots of body roll and really light steering.

I think a G37 would have been a good car to include in the comparison but then it might be a bit too powerful to compare to the 328...

this is exactly how I felt about the cars! A4 was a major disappointment to be honest, light steering, tons of body roll no power...etc! G35 sedan would have made a good comparison to the 335i, not 328i though. Not too surprised they left the most competitive car to the 3 series in the segment...

they probably had the sport package on the bimmers but not the Audi. I drove both cars and body roll isn't as significant as you people say it is. (335i/A4 Sport). A4's steering is servotronic, tightens as your speed increases. The bimmers had no active steering so it felt heavier, some people prefer active, most people don't. I agree that A4 compared to 335i has no power, 2.0T vs 3.0TT, Duhh!. (Don't know if they had 3.2Q, but that wouldnt matter anyways)

HonestTea 04-18-2009 01:07 PM

From what I remember, at least one BMW didn't have the sports package.

The IS250 felt slow, A4 felt a little under-powered, steering was loose and lots of body roll. I liked the C300 4MATIC, nice interior and it looks good!

The BMW lineup was good, 328i -> 335d, too bad the 335d starts at 49k haha so expensive!

umm yea, drive a M3 and test drive cars thats shittier, on the lower end?

Adrenaline Rush 04-20-2009 05:02 PM

They could still be testing those cars for their signficant others, family, or friends. And considering it's free, you get to drive other peoples cars, and there's even free food, I can think of worse ways to burn 2 hrs :D
