Computer restarting over and over again

Yeah so I'm trying to help a friend..

A gateway computer, just recently downloaded the microsoft updates and attempted to installed them.. During the 3 of 3 update, it was stuck at 99% and the computer restarted. After this it just kept restarting over and over again.

F8 during startup and selecting "previous best setup" or something like that didn't work either

Does anyone have a solution?

lilaznviper 03-31-2009 08:22 PM

safe mode --> system restore

monkeywrench 03-31-2009 08:30 PM

It couldn't get into safe mode

InvisibleSoul 04-01-2009 01:03 AM

XP or Vista?

lilaznviper 04-01-2009 08:16 AM

put in the windows cd and try a repair

Manic! 04-01-2009 10:30 AM

Check if your CPU fan is working.

monkeywrench 04-01-2009 10:32 AM

It's a vista, forgot to mention that..

Yeah I'll ask if the fan is working, I totally forgot about that too

That's why I asked if it was XP or Vista... if it was XP, it would be simple... do a repair installation of Windows. But you can't do the same thing on Vista...

offtopic: my comp's been restarting when i play dota and the graphics become fuzzy and then black screen of death. while we're on the topic of fans, can a broken mobo fan be causing the black screen of death? also, my sound card has been having faulty detection issues and it doesn't even work anymore. could it be overheating near the broken mobo fan? btw, it's not the cpu fan, but a smaller fan that's attached to the mobo. thanks!

NO, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FAN

It sounds like your computer is dying from all those DOTA games. It killed your video card, sound card, and probably the mobo.

Get a new computer and stay away from DOTA.

And I am being serious.
