best place for valve adjustment?

where and how much should I expect for valve adjustment? My car is making metal tapping sounds that is louder from underneath the car (rises with RPMS)...definitely not injectors. All I can think of is valves out of spec

price of feeler gauges and basic hand tools? do it yourself? its pretty simple.

how many k's are on the engine? typically, valve lash doesn't need adjustment unless head work has been done.
a little tip to have an idea of how the feeler gauge should feel as you slide it through the gap is to use a good micrometer set to the required gap. slide the gauge finger through that first
