IS300 Rear Fog Light wtf
 

I have a '02 IS300 and im confused about the rear fog lights. (The two red lights on the trunk)

The user's manual says to push the button next to the steering wheel to turn it on, the button itself will have a little orange light that turn on to indicate that the rear fogs are on. The rear fogs only turn on when the headlights are on.

That is not whats happening though. The two lights on my trunk acts as brake lights. They turn on when the brakes are on, along with the actual brake lights on both sides. Regardless of the fog light switch. When the headlights are on, only the brake lights themselves are lit, and of course it glows brighter when you hit the brakes. That doesnt make any sense, there are no other lights on my rear.

I've seen other IS300s at night that have the trunk lights on even when they are not using their brakes, and I have seen other IS300 with their trunk lights off and they act as brake lights.

So, how do I turn my rear fogs on without stepping on the brakes?

If I'm not mistaken. The IS300s fog light system depends on how it was ordered from the factory.

The two inside red circles will be for fog lights if they were ordered for it. If they were ordered without rear fog lights they will be brake lights. I believe they are prewired for the rear fog lights though, so all you'd have to do is find the harness and just connect it I think.

As for the rear fog button, eh maybe someone added one in after?

Best to ask on my.is about the rewiring. My rear trunk lights turn on and stay on when I press the "Rear Fog" light.
