yes, you can DIY. but to do it cleanly and by minimizing the damage on your fender/paint, that takes patience and experience/skill. renting a fender roller makes things a helluva lot easier. the ad that was posted is hella cheap for renting such an expensive piece of equipment, totally worth it.

about 50 bucks a corner to get it professionally done.

you won't fuck up the paint if you do it yourself as long as you arent....an idiot.

use a heatgun generously. If your'e going to pull, dimpling the fender is a bigger worry than cracking the metal.

let's see the car/suspension setup, along with your wheel specs.

what he said... and if the clearcoat starts to go brown, take a hint and realize you've gone too far (which i didn't... :( )

Some cars (ie: Lexus SC400 and Supras) have really thick guage metal so rolling them is very difficult. Most other cars are pretty straight-forward. I know a guy that rented one off that exact Craigslist ad and the rentee was a super nice guy and the roller was top notch.

CanadaGoose 04-14-2009 10:41 AM

make sure you use a heat gun

I have a roller and have been doing Subaru rolls for about a year now. It's hard to do, definately an acquired skill that comes with experience. I use the roller pictured above, and it works well. Be sure to use a heat gun also though, as the paint on some cars cracks very easily. I usually add some touch up paint at the same time as the roll, so I can use the heat gun to ensure it dries quickly.

Good luck man.
