johny 04-13-2009 02:04 PM

telus I get it most of the way on vic to twas, west van to nam, and west van to sunshine coast.

this is with aircard, surfing the whole way :D

fido/rogers, like someone mentioned, you'll lose signal for 5 minutes tops. also depends on how good your cellphone is.

The_AK 04-13-2009 04:46 PM

I believe it also depends if your cellphone has an actual separate antenna or not... unless i've fallen behind on cell phone technology.

im back and forth between the mainland and the island regularly and i no longer lose reception throughout the entire crossing. im with telus on a blackberry if it makes a diff.

TekDragon 04-13-2009 08:49 PM

Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay had full reception. I'm with Rogers.

El Bastardo 04-13-2009 09:39 PM

I lose reception mid-way through the Horseshoe/Departure route but for no longer than 15-20 mins tops. I have a shitty phone tho :(

I take the ferry to Victoria every couple weekends and I usually just chill in my truck and watch movies on my lap top in the loading bay... I am with Bell and i have full reception the whole way, even in the parking area.. However, i did get charged with a single long distance text message once during a storm. I have a text plan so that was weird to see.

The ferry does cross into USA waters during the crossing from vancouver to victoria. So you can be charged roaming or long distance for calls, data and text messages.

no it doesn't, but you can hit US towers from canada. normaly the phone company gives you le-way and doesn't charge for hitting the close US towers. because it probably happens all the time to people near the border

i've worked for the ferries for one summer, and yes, during the trip, you do hit a certain area where its USA coverage and you can be charged.
