Renting out home for Olympics requires $106 licence

It'll cost Vancouver residents $106 for a licence to rent out their homes for the Olympics.

But housing activist Am Johal said a new by-law is like "pitching a tent in a tornado" when it comes to dealing with the threat of evictions from greedy landlords.

The city's services and budgets committee added extra teeth to a staff recommendation on the new by-law.

Councillors agreed to backdate a provision to June 1 which says that anyone with tenants after that date cannot rent rooms to Olympic visitors.

The by-law, which now goes to full council, doesn't restrict people wanting to rent a single room to up to two guests.

If they want money just inforce tax collection from all the illegal suites, probably get enough revenue to pay off the national debt in a few years. In other words nobody is going to pay.
