	   | What is the best time of year to go to Tofino?

My exams are almost done and I was thinking of going to Tofino between May 1 and Mayb 10, I'm wondering if it's a good time to go and take some surf lessons and chill on the beaches.

I don't recommend going in late July-August, unless you like waiting until 4:00pm to see the sun.

Huge storms, or sunny days are both kickass. The middle of summer when its packed can be pretty fun to party, but expencive as hell to find a place to sleep.

I was up there last year for May Long Weekend and had a great time. We lucked out on the weather though. Sun and mixed cloud all weekend, and just started to rain as we left. You can't count on good weather up there though... its hit and miss.

^ it IS the west coast so just because it could be the middle of summer doesnt mean you wont get nice heavy fog in the morning or anything.
For rental gear i use Long Beach Surf Shop (they're on the right just before you get into tofino) they're the most inexpensive place to rent and all the gera i've used from there has been in great shape.
Honestly Tofino is awesome any time of year

Wow I didn't think this question would stir up so many responses! Thanks guys, I hope it's going to work out and the day I go it sunny, don't think I can take surf lessons in a storm.
Also, how is the road there? Smooth highway? I don't want to break my car on rough roads.

 | The hwy is great all the way up to just past Sproat lake, after that it gets pretty bumpy and it seems like they are always re-surfacing so you might even hit some gravel. The main roads in Tofino/Uke are fine.
Hwy 4 is an awesome drive though, forgot about the crap pavement and check out the scenery.

the road isnt smooth highway, more of a super twistly hilly road (lots of blind 30 km/h corners) and some potholes here and there, wasnt bad though when i was up there a month ago or so, a little sand and stuff on the road from the snow.most of the beaches face a bit different directions so if the surf is huge on one beach it'll be more manageable on the others (and the surf schools will know where to go for which conditions), and once you're out in the water it really doesnt matter if its raining or not
