Are JBL 4x6s worth TWICE as much as Pioneers? So I have a VERY modest stereo in my truck...JVC deck and a pair of Sony 6x9s in boxes behind the bench...I blew one of my fronts and looking for replacements. I bought a set of Pioneer TS-G4642R 4x6s. My other option would be to go with a set of JBL GTO 6427s However, the JBLs cost TWICE as much. I like to crank my music as loud as the speakers will handle, but these speakers will probably NEVER see real power (I'm thinking of tossing a single 12 behind the seat in a month or two and that's it for stereo). Are the Pioneers decent? On paper, they're less sensitive (89db vs. 91) but have a WAY better freq. responce (40Hz - 26kHz on the Pioneers vs 75Hz to 20 kHz on the JBLs) Experiences? Opinions? Thanks :) |
Numbers are funny things on paper. Try not to let them control you. How do the Pioneer's sound? A small amp will make them sound better. The JBL's will sound a little different too, especially with an amp. If you really want them to sound good, stick a sub in the mix. It'll change everything! |
If you don't have plans to amp the speakers at all and you jam on it loud, then I'd just stick with the Pio's. Even if you blow them, they're cost effective enough. Make sure not to crank em too loud for a few hours of play time. New speakers have a break in period. That should pro-long the life of the speakers. |
Thanks...a sub is definitely on the way...probably a single 12...but my buddy has a pair of 10s that are tempting... cman: oops...haha...been cranking them since they went in last night... |

But farthermore your warranty will never be void for "not breaking speakers in" providing you havent breached any of the other warranty terms Make sure you have some sort of HPF on them...can use your decks setting if need be. Especially if you listen to a lot of bass heavy rap this will prolong the life of your speakers |
wow, this is the last forum I expected to see you on! Thanks for all the advice, man...what's HPF? And yeah, that's pretty much all I listen to when I'm driving haha |

thanks...I'm not even sure if my deck has an HPF...it's a bottom-of-the-line JVC MP3 player...I initially just threw it in 'cuz I insured the truck for 3 weeks last summer and needed something to play music for 3 weeks haha |
