where locally can I get a RC car

looking for a RC car as a gift for my cousin's birthday. He always wanted those tamiya type things 4WD with ground clearance (off-road)

something like this
http://www.bananahobby.com/1565.html

i know racing devils in Aberdeen but their prices are like 400+, I'm more looking at the 200 dollar range.

TIA guys

Try Magic Box Hobbies on Arbutus and 37th by the 7/11. They usually have some RC stuff.

Apollo Hobbies in Burnaby, located by Lougheed Hwy & Production Way.

Both places mentioned above when I went had, high prices, shit service. I go to either Golden Horizon Hobbies or Team1Hobbies in New West. I'm not into RC anymore but if you're looking for a new monster truck those will run you around $400+ for nitro at least

if its for like a younger person, then places like toys r us.

if its for an older person, that cares more for build quality and detail, then ur looking at the tamiya type RC cars. they can get costly.

+1, the people who are into the "costly" ones, a lot find half the fun in building them, the other half in driving.

btw aznboi check your pms

!Aznboi128 04-16-2009 09:31 PM

^ he's mid 20s so not going to get a tyco lol something a little more "professional" lol and I dont mind spending up to 200 cause he's been like a brother to me

BrendanS 04-16-2009 09:33 PM

$200 honestly won't get you far.

Those prices are considered cheap, then factor in shipping, conversion, etc. If I were you maybe buy him a giftcard to amainhobbies?

!Aznboi128 04-16-2009 10:59 PM

he has a mini-z he wants something that can work in the grass/sand/snow so 4wd lifted truck thing lol

smoothie. 04-16-2009 11:47 PM

i have a gas truck, and when the snow is coming down there still isnt enough clearance to get around lol.

IMASA 04-17-2009 04:55 AM

$200 isn't going to get you anything, so if that's really your budget, try Radioshack or ToysRUs. RC's are hella expensive. I was into them for 3yrs or so, I still have a stock pile of old misc parts and cars/truck. Else see if you can get him a $200 giftcard at a RC shop.

kookoobird88 04-17-2009 08:42 PM

actually i think magic box hobbies last time i went had a mini cooper by tamiya that was 195$

twitchyzero 04-17-2009 09:22 PM

i still remember getting this one from Radioshack..i remember my dad paid $300 for it 11 years ago Lol...
http://cgi.ebay.com/RADIOSHACK-EXTRE...0415158004r677

this was actually comparable to the hobbie cars.
they actual had decent RC cars back in the days

I still have it somewhere in storage..i feel like playing with it this summer. good memories!
