Dont know if this has been posted before..
You can either go online and look where common speed traps and red light cameras are or you can get the phone app if you have gps and it will warn you when you are coming up to anything..
also if you see a speed trap you submit it and if anyone else has the app on their phone it will warn them they are coming up to a speed trap..
best of all.. its free

I tried it out on my iphone... it was neat for the first day, then I realized that a few traps I passed by no one had posted anything, so the # of users is too little to be useful!

Good to start using it again on the iPad with a larger screen, the red light camera locations are quite accurate.

the app is next to useless.
not enough people use it, or people that actually uses it dont bother reporting the live traps.

gave this a try awhile ago too. Beside the problem of having a small database there was also the problem where it doesn't know your direction. it would tell you there is a trap and even after u past it and the trap is behind you it would still continue to do the annoying alert for couple km. IMO not a good free alternative to the traditonal radar detector or the new detectors with built in databast

Haven't used it on the road yet, but for trip planning it's interesting as I don't have a GPS based detector (only uses the V1).

iPhone app is mostly useless imo. And dangerous to operate while driving.

Perhaps it's worth using if you're going on a cannonball run and you've got a co-driver, but for the most part it will only give you a false sense of security.

I'm thinking the police oughta be purchasing them new
'Carbon'cruiser units. They look a lot easier
puttin punk asses where they belong.

But no seriously, I think smartphone applications have
potential in other arenas.
For example, Fontinalis Partners, who have been established
by Bill Ford and several other partners, have combined recently
with Georgia-based "Park-Mobile" to develope smartphones that
not only help drivers find parking spots but also let you
use your handset to pay for parking.

According to Fortune, on average 30% of traffic in all cities
worldwide are caused by people looking for parking.
I would have never thought of this 10 years ago.

i think there is apps on iphone to find parking spot already, your right smartphone application that aids driving experience are general quite innovative if not just pure fun. I had so much fun playing with iTurbo and dynolicious and I'm looking forward to compustar drone:thumbsup:
