CONTEST: Make your own Revscene song. Its easier than you think.

For those of you who don't know what Microsoft Songsmith is:

Quote:

Microsoft Research Songsmith is a musical accompaniment application for Microsoft Windows, launched in early 2009. Songsmith immediately generates a musical accompaniment after a voice is recorded. The user can adjust tempo, genre (such as pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock, jazz, or reggae), and overall mood (e.g. to make it joyful, sad, jazzy, etc.).
Why do you care?

Well, its a tool in a contest we're running. Heres the basic premise.

You take a song that you, or someone who know, sings and put it into Songsmith. You take what comes out and post it in this thread. We all take a listen and after the contest closes we vote.

The prizes in this low-tech contest? Just as low-tech.

First Prize: A limited-edition Revscene music t-shirt. Some of you may have seen it at the Revscene clubbing meet worn by the djs. Well, winning this contest will net you that very same shirt. It also comes with a Revscene lanyard.

Second Prize: A lanyard and car window sticker combo.

Third Prize: An avatar and user title upgrade.

Rules?

It has to be you (or someone you know) singing about Revscene or Revscene related things. I don't care if you take an existing song and change the lyrics, but it has to be RS-themed.

You can link from YouTube, TinyPic (you can upload an mp3 or wav as a video) or another host.

Download Microsoft Songsmith here:

Contest closes May 10th at midnight

For inspiration I've included some existing songs that have had their vocal tracks thrown into Songsmith. Heres what it crapped out:

Oh, and to answer the obvious question:

Yes, I have used Songsmith myself. I used the T-Pain "Autotune" effect to recite a Shakespeare speech into the thing.

Yes, it was awful.

No, you can't hear it.

El Bastardo 04-19-2009 05:02 AM

Please no discussion of Songsmith tracks you find on Youtube. You can find 'Never Gonna Give You Up' done in metal and a bluesy version of 'Chocolate Rain' but thats a convo for another thread.

Seriously? No entries yet?

If i submit 'jizz in my pants', will I win?

El Bastardo 04-24-2009 03:15 AM

No. Keep them on. Better yet, put them in the laundry

You write lyrics, I sing. LOLOLOLOL

Manic! 04-25-2009 01:43 AM

Can we use other vtools instead of Songsmith?

El Bastardo 04-25-2009 08:34 PM

Depends. I mean, you can't use a tool like Fruity Loops or Garage Band to build a beat. You have to rely on Songsmith's shitty engine to do that for you. (Unless what you make is really, really good... or really, really shitty. Then its allowed)

But if you wanted to use something to piece together the vocals like Audacity or Cubase that'd be cool.

KingDeeCee 04-26-2009 11:03 AM

Does the song have to be about Revscene or anything?

+Kardboard+ 04-26-2009 12:37 PM

No duh. :lol It's in the rules up top hahaha

I, my friend, is fucking dyslectic. How did I miss that -.-

Inaii 04-26-2009 09:50 PM

It's dyslexic, and that's not even remotely close. That's called being blind or illiterate =p

+Kardboard+ 04-26-2009 10:45 PM

Or ignorant. :)

Now go make me a song. :lol

+Kardboard+ 05-04-2009 09:21 AM

THIS IS NOT AN ENTRY, but hopefully this will get some more people writing! haahha See? It's not that hard to write a parody song about RS. :haha:

Neither is it that difficult to totally embarrass oneself while dragging a few other RS members down with you. Ha!

So we had our third REVscene phone chat meet. We had fun, we had food, then a guitar came out and we had fail. Ohhhh the shame. :lol

Or something. Hope you laugh at us, at the very least.

Lyrics! To sing along:
DO YOU HAVE THE TIME, TO STAY ALL NIGHT ONLINNNNE
SURF REVSCENE AND DO NOT GET ANY WORK DONNNNE
I AM ONE OF THOSE...POSTWHORING N00BIE FOOOOOLS
REPOSTING STUFF AND MAKING MYSELF FLAAAAMEBAIT

SOMETIMES I GO FIND SOMETHING SWEEET
AT THE VLS COFFEE MEEEETS
MY POINTS KEEP ADDING UP
NO BANS ARE REALLY TOUGGGGH
AM I JUST POSTING JUNK
OR AM I FAIL?????

(there is a second verse...kinda. It's not good enough yet.)

El Bastardo 05-06-2009 10:59 PM

Contest canceled due to an extreme lack of entries.

yellowpower 05-10-2009 10:03 PM

You're asking a rs member to sing a song for rs, which could potentially embarrass them for life, and all you hand out is a t-shirt?
