Loving Capture One Pro 4.7. Opens your eyes as to how inefficient PS CS4 is, especially with exposure correction, colour correction and batch processing.

If i had the money I'd buy it right now!

Capture one is the greatest. I still have one of the earlier versions but it doesnt support d300 raw :(

Not sure if this is a noob question but how does Capture one compare to something like Lightroom? Seem to have the same purpose.

Meowjin 04-22-2009 05:46 PM

better raw conversions

They are totally different, but in a way they compliment each other. Lightroom for digital asset management, Capture One Pro for colour management, and Photoshop for more in depth editing. I can live without PS if I had Lightroom and Capture One, for most of my work, as I usually don't go crazy with Photoshop.

Capture One is lightyears ahead of Lightroom and CS4 when it comes to RAW conversion and colour management. There are things you can do in Capture One in minutes that would take hours, even days to do in Photoshop. It's a totally new paradigm in image editing...the software doesn't work on the image pixels themselves. It works on the mathematical algorithms that make up the image, unlike Photoshop, Lightroom, etc... It will only build the pixels when you save an image. It's hard to explain, actually...

Totally unrelated... Resize your god damn pictures!

Is Capture One only limited to certain cameras and/or files?

Capture One can work with almost any DSLR RAW file, but will only allow tethered shooting with Phase One, canon & Nikon DSLR's.

^^ nice.. how much for the capture one?

Senna4ever 04-23-2009 12:17 AM

I think we're selling it for an introductory price of $299.

I'm going to definitely look into Capture. Aside from that and Lightroom, is there anything else you would recommend?

No, not really. Those 3 are the best there are. Capture One does have a somewhat steep learning curve, as the user interface is different from that of Lightroom or PS. Download the trial version and see if you like it.
