restore painted rims to original color? I bought a set of wheels that's painted and I want to restore it back to their original color, is this possible to do myself? I don't mind doing it myself as long as it's do-able even if it takes a long time or is it better to bring it to a shop for them to do? if I do bring it to a shop, how much around will I be looking to pay? thanks in advance |
i don't know if you can bring back the original paint, cuz once the paint is paint stripped. its down to bare metal. The way i suggest you doing is: bring your wheels to Air strip Limted -1511031 Bridgeport Rd, Richmond, BC 604 270 7665 they will sand blast your wheels, = paint stripping - $25/rim then you can either powder coat them (cheap and durable), diy painting, or take it to panthers to get them painted for $150/wheel |
well my rims used to originally be polished if that matters?.... did you go to that place before? anyone else? |
If you take it to a shop to get repainted it can be pretty pricey. If you're able to DIY I'd suggest doing that since you'll save tons of $ |
polished rims are simple if the wheel use to be polished all u need to do is use 3m air craft paint stripper take the paint right off. clean the wheels and start sanding use like a 500 grit and work your way up to 2000, then use some mothers mag wheel polish and polish till u find a gloss your happy with |
yes I would like to do it myself.... and yes the wheels are vs-xx and they used to be polished in color... where can I buy the 3m air craft paint stripper? thanks |
canadian tire in the paint section..comes in a green bottle i think or any auto parts store should have it paint stripper is powerful stuff lol, i rememebered i sprayed it on the wheel and the paint would just peel right off |
