Any VW Rabbit/GTI Owners?

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering which one of you out there owns a newer VW Rabbit and/or a GTI? I sold my Alfa Romeo yesterday and need a car primarily for work purposes. Just looking to see what to look out for, common known issues, or things that bother you about the car.

Brownie points if you can show me the car too. :)

Thanks!

Volkswagen are great cars. anyone who complains about reliability issues in drivetrain and electronics are lame and DO NOT speak from personal experience.

^ Except for me I guess...and a couple friends...and my cousin.

We all had VW lemons. LOL

Anyway, my friend bought a new Rabbit and let me take it for a rip. Super fun car to drive. He hasn't had any problems, has owned for about a year and puts a lot of kms on it. Aldergrove to Van each day for work.

Or they're speaking from personal experience, but in regards to the older ones. My B3 Passat had absolutely nothing but electrical problems. Even after I replaced the entire wiring harness and put in extra grounds, those electric gremlins kept showing up. lol.

But the newer models don't really have any of these stereotypical VW problems.

Yep we all had VW gremlins in the older cars but the newer ones seeeeeem to be ok. Well except for the plastic bladed water pumps that like to blow up haha. Just ask Alatar :D

Berz out.

That being said, I considered the 5 door GTi, but opted not to go for a new car due to financial situations at the time.

list of vw that my parents have owned
95 passat GLX -V6 - every electrical problem you can imagine + constant coolant leak
02 Jetta GL (got base with no power windows to eliminate the electrical problem) - engine and tranny had to be rebuilt in 05, warranty did not cover
08 Rabbit 5-door (traded the Jetta) - 2 months on the road the rear lights NONE of them worked, along with that all interior lights didnt work only light that was on is the DRL no matter if you flip the switch. (my parents sold it got an Accord 6-months later)

Had more problems with the dealerships than the car in my experiences. I've owned a MKII Golf and I currently have a MKV Jetta. There were too many things wrong with the Golf to name but it was a fun car to drive.

As for the Jetta, some problems I've encountered were the alarm would go off non-stop at night at 5 minute intervals, I ended up just not locking my car at all until the dealership could finally schedule me in. The 40, in my spilt 60/40 seats wouldn't latch back up, some of the rubber on my window trim melted, door skin started coming off so I could fit my hand between the door and window.

Nothing really major with my MKV except for the alarm thing which I had to bring back twice to Cowell. They're a bunch of jerks there anyway... taking my car for a 30km joy ride and saying it's because they have to move it around the lot. Anyone who's going to buy a VW stay away from Cowell... go to Clarkdale instead.

If I could make my car buying decision again I wouldn't go for a brand new VW. There's just better cars you can get in that price range.

mickz....i wanna know which service advisor u had!?

mickz 04-26-2009 12:45 AM

I don't remember his name... it was an older chinese male and his desk was right beside the window. I might be able to dig out his business card. I've owned my car for just over two years but stopped going there shortly after the first month because I've always had to bring my car there twice to get the same problem fixed. At Clarkdale they always fix it the first time and I don't have 30km put onto my car. Not to mention the lot bitch at Cowell (asian kid with glasses) is a douchebag.

Like you, i was hightly considering the GTI. Something around 06-07 with cloth would cost me about 20, and something with leather about 22-23. Then i figured, fuck it, for that much money i could buy an 05 g35, now i know that car may not be your cup of tea, however its faster (300 hp compared to 200hp) nicer interior, nicer exterior....
the best website for v dubs is
www.vwvortex.com they even have a for sale section where people are selling 06's with 30,000 miles for like 14 grand us.
