UBC for Visiting Students

I plan on attending UBC this fall (2009) as a visiting student to finish my last year and get my degree in Calgary. I just want to try something different. I am getting my degree in the Bachelor of Science majoring in (general) BioSci.

Can someone tell me what to expect for the 3rd + 4th year science courses at UBC? I heard in some(?) the courses, the finals are worth 60-70% of the final grade... That is ridiculous but it does depend on the prof, I guess.

I plan on taking random science courses and perhaps some that are related to pharmacy. Suggestions for interesting/good courses? Also, any gpa-boosters I can become aware of? Note: I am interested in psychology and sociology options.

Wow this section is dead!

Any other local Vancouver forums I can head on over to?

Those are some pharmacy electives that are given credit when/if you ever decide to apply to the pharmacy program at UBC.

Aside from those FNH courses, I don't know of any other science related courses you can take that can help give you a GPA boost. Most of those courses are pretty tough (no socio/psych courses on the list). Some other Pharm related courses if you want to risk messing up your GPA are BIOC 300/301/302, ANAT 390/395 and PHYL 301. The anatomies have relatively high averages (mid 70's), the others had lower averages ~mid 60's (can't remember)?

Hm.. one other course that I heard was super easy was PATH 375 (3) Introduction to Human Pathology (high 80 average).

Also your comment about heavy weighted finals is true. The final exams are very often over 50% of your entire grade.

isn't it too late to apply for fall 2009 now?
if you can look through courses listed online for ubc, find courses you're interested in and go check the professor ratings at www.ratemyprofessor.com and people should have comments about which profs have easy courses.
i dunno about science courses but i just heard anatomy is difficult... genetics is relatively easy in my opinion.. psyc 305 (personality), 300 (abnormal), 350 (human sexuality), fmst 314 (relationship development) are easy courses to boost your gpa... it's basically regurgitation.

Sweet, thanks!
I looked at those courses and it looks pretty difficult but interesting. I'll let you guys know what I choose in a bit.

Thank you. Besides Psyc and Soci, any other options worth taking?
