Free Comic Book Day, Saturday May 2nd, 2009

http://www.freecomicbookday.com/

Usually they have a table set up such that you just walk in the store and can take one copy of each of the titles they have there. Last time, I think there were like 20-25 different comics available.

Use the FCBD Shop Locator to find participating stores.

Here are the stores in East Vancouver:

COMIC LAND
3845 RUPERT STREET
VANCOUVER, BC
(604) 437-4545

RX COMICS
2418 MAIN ST
VANCOUVER, BC

POW COMICS

VANCOUVER, BC

TAZMANIAN COMIC CONNECTION
4702 E HASTINGS STREET
BURNABY, BC

WOW!!!! 25 Free comics?! Holy jesus I am going for sure. Possibly to all the shops :P

EDIT: I noticed when I went to the find a store, Comic Land had a check mark beside it. Does this mean it's the closest one to me or the only one participating.

InvisibleSoul 04-26-2009 11:24 PM

I think it's an error on their website. It says "Click the check mark to get more information about each store" so I think each location is supposed to have one.

I don't think it lists the stores by order of how close they are either... just all the stores in your area.

I'm pretty sure POW Comics is closest to me, but it has Comic Land first as well.

I went to POW Comics last year for this event, and they were definitely participating, so I can't see why they wouldn't be this year. They even gave out some free tiny figurines and stuff... ones that you might get from those egg toy machines. :p

InvisibleSoul 04-26-2009 11:26 PM

Yeah, it's a fairly wide selection of free comics... it's ones that they publish specifically for free comic book day. Word of warning though... most of the comics are crappy ones that you've probably never heard of... but there will be a few staples... like every year they have one free Archie comic.

KingDeeCee 04-26-2009 11:27 PM

Wow nice. Worth going to every location to pick up the free stuff or just one?

Grandmaster TSE 04-27-2009 12:59 AM

the only good ones to pick up are the ones that is a prelude to a big event

go pick up the DC blackest night #0, explains all the different colour lanterns now and the big series thats gonna happen in June

Just one... they'll all have the same comics.

Sounds cool. I have never really been a comic book guy, but I loved watching the animated series of X-men, Batman, Spiderman etc. I just downloaded seasons 1-5 of Justice League and it's sooo good!

Durrann1984 04-27-2009 02:24 PM

Thanks for the heads up. It sounds like a cool storyline that I would have no idea how to understand otherwise.

Grandmaster TSE 04-27-2009 04:21 PM

its pretty cool how everyone thought there was only green lanterns, but theres lanterns on all colours of the spectrum. but the best part is that theres a black lantern as well that dwells off death, and it ties in with batman's death

InvisibleSoul 05-02-2009 04:25 PM

So did anyone go get their free comics today?

Or did everyone forget about it? :p

KingDeeCee 05-02-2009 09:34 PM

Of course I did not forget. How can I pass an offer from free comics, even if it was shitty ones. Seems like this years comics got smaller. I didn't get the ones I wanted either, probably cause I was too late or the dude didn't have any. Went to Comic Land btw.

InvisibleSoul 05-03-2009 12:32 AM

What time did you go? We actually dropped by POW Comics first at around 12:30pm, but it looked like they were out of a lot of titles already based on how the comics were laid out on the three table and that there were a lot of empty holes. We decided to swing by Comic Land afterwards, and they had considerably more titles in stock, including the Archies and Simpsons ones...

KingDeeCee 05-03-2009 09:33 AM

Went pretty late. Around 3-4. Dude's shop looked like a basement -.- He needs to renovate the place.

'everyone' as in the gen population or as in the comic book population?
and to be fair... the other lantern colours didn't exist until about a year and a half ago
