Virus help needed ASAP. I have a nasty virus. I am running windows XP and went to install a program and a the avast virus alert window came up but i pressed ignore by mistake. I tried to go into safe mode and running virus scan now but not picking anything up. If i go in regular mode it just freezes and i have to reboot. can anyone help? what should I do besides virus scan. I have done ad aware and got rid of some. please help. |
Try disabling all the startup items and then boot into normal mode, again. If it boots up, then it's one of the startup items that's causing the issue, and you could solve it by process of elimination and educated guesses. To disable startup items: Start > Run > msconfig > OK > Click Selective Startup > Uncheck Load Startup Items > OK > restart. |
i have it running a virus scan in safe mode right now but will try that next, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks I will keep you posted in here. |
reformat your computer :D |
download "malwarebytes" from a good computer, and put onto CD or flash drive. run on other computer in safe mode. if you can now boot up in normal mode, update malwarebytes and run again. |
I now can boot up the computer but I get a pop up saying there is no dick in the drive please insert. It doesnt say what drive and when i press cancel it keeps coming up. And I cant get any internet. I am on a second computer, i have rebooted the modem and still nothing on the other computer. Where can i look to see why i cant get the internet. I did a release / renew and nothing. |
i format computer the mouse and keyboard still freeze for no reason had to press alt and tab in order for mouse to move |
i have the computer running and can access everything on it. I just can not get the internet and the pop up to go away. There has to be a more simplier way then to format the drive. |

It looks like you still have malware / viruses on your computer. Rundll89.exe is definitely sketchy. Have you run Malwarebytes, yet? |

even if u download malware bytes, u need to update it. i recently got hit with a boot sector virus, "kryptor". managed to recover data off the hdd, then completely hard fried the hdd to get it back up and running. by that i mean used diskpart to rid the partition completely. had some issue with my mobo which caused a big headache trying to reinstall. but fresh install = super fast computer! |
