blown voicecoil? so after work, like usual, i like to play some music at what i normally listen to it at. setup: pioneer gm7200 amp, alpine type s sub at 2ohms. all of a sudden it cuts out, so i turned off my stereo until i got home. got home, popped the trunk, theres smoke coming out the port of the box FML. took the sub out of box, wiring is fine. checked under hood, and the fuse is COOKED. so went to buy new fuse. power to amp, sub not thumping, it works at very very low volume, but still even cuts out. so is my sub cooked? |
yup and maybe the amp too |
FML! had it for only a few weeks. i'm gonna try hooking back up my w3 tomorrow to see if my amp still works. |
went to visions after work and they said they'll give me a new sub(under 30 days) tomorrow when my sales guy is working. i might pay a little more money to upgrade to a different sub. hooked up the w3 and still working. |
Sounds like cooked sub. That smell gets stuck in the car for a couple days. Heh heh. W3 is a good sub, far superior to the Type-S. Make sure to break in the sub, or you will keep bringing it back every month. Get a technician to properly tune the amp for you so you don't have future issues. FYI, Blown subs can short out the amp too. Did you tune the amp yourself? And did Visions mention to you about breakin period of the sub? |
i haven't installed the new sub i got yet.. i just threw in my w3, and it's still pounding hard. i might just sell the type-s.. |
