Sony DSLR for only $499!

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...gon=&langid=EN

good deal for a noob DSLR user?

Meowjin 05-02-2009 02:49 AM

good deal if you want to go the sony/konica minolta route.

This is a really appealing deal. Thinking of either getting this or the d60 now.

A pretty good deal...but that particular sensor is a bit noisy over 400 ISO.

TRDood 05-04-2009 11:55 PM

so i went to FS and looked at the camera in person.. it looks super ugly and bulky compared to the Canon ones..

maybe i will wait.

try it out in your hands and play with it.

I've played with it quite a bit, and what turns me off about this compared to my Canon 1000D is the fact that the selector dial and on/off switch is on the left side. I like holding my camera with my left hand cradling the lens and my right hand holding the grip, and i don't like having to move my left hand to switch any of the modes or to turn if off... I know this is a personal thing, but it just really bugs me.

The button placement of most Olympus/Sony DSLRs baffle me. I can figure out the Nikon and Canon ergonomics really quickly, but the other companies' layout makes me go huh?

Like finding the aperture control button and ISO button on most of the basic DSLRs from those two companies takes me a good few minutes of examining teeny tiny script with too many markings...

It's $448 at Visions this week.

Hehe...I find canon's ergonomics highly illogical, and canon SLRs never fail to piss me off.

Meowjin 05-06-2009 10:31 PM

Hehe, to each his own.

Though I don't think I can live without the thumb wheel and the index finger wheel setup on SLR's... so easy to control shutter and aperture!
