Domain and Hosting Help so, I just purchased a domain from godaddy.com but I would like to use shaw to host my files since my internet comes with ftp service. I'm a little confused how I'm supposed to bring the two together, has anyone had experience doing this? |
http://shawwebspace.ca/ I am not sure whether they will let you use your own domain though. They do let the business package users do that. |
Alright so i got around that problem and just decided to host with godaddy (using their free services for now), however, the website only loads from some networks. For example I was at school and it loaded from there, but my friend nor I could load it from home. I tried going through a proxy and that worked for me. What could be the problem? Does it take a while for a website to be fully discoverable on the internet? |
You may need to wait up to 72h for everything to propagate. |
if its a new site, like notorious said, u need to wait about 72hrs for the domain to propagate to all the dns's. some update fast, some take up to 72hrs. also make sure the dns you yourself is using is uptodate. i once changed the dns to something my friend gave me to test out, totally forgot to change back, and so couldnt figure out why i couldnt reach some sites... finally did an OH YEAH! and figured out the issue. |
is it a competing site with rs? ;) |
Domain Name Forwarding. You will enable this with your registrar go daddy. Shaw should give you a link where you hosting is such as http://shawhosting.com/username You want to forward your domain name to that shaw link. |
