Import Shows

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board and relatively new to Revscene. I just had a quick question with regards to Import Shows. How big are they in Vancouver (such as DTP)? How would they compare to something like Hot Import Nights? Do you guys think it would be successful if there was a HIN somewhere in the region? Thanks again for all the help!

We used to have lots of shows every year... thinking back to 2001 or so... in the last few years, it diminished more and more... fewer shows each year. Last year, we were down to two I can think of that were directed to Import people... (aside from the RS.net meets)... one being DTP, which was cancelled this year... the other being Import Invasion at Mission Raceway, but that's half of the pits on any given Friday night now.

People in Vancouver are too cheap for shows to be successful anymore.

It's not abot being cheap. It's about changing up the looks. Why would people want to see the same cars at shows when they can just walk the streets and see better cars? They paid see it once, they dont wanna pay to see it again.

The fad is over, and people grow up...the up comming generation isn't as facinated with vibrant colours 10000 paint job and 25 monitors in a honda.

wayyy smaller, hot import nights has tons of national models and bigger events. if HIN showed up, i'm sure we could represent well, but we have a special niche which is that we don't really like the trend 5 years ago for ricers and super LED lighted vansky cars.

I mean, we've already went through our clean phase, flat black, and vinlyl phases here lol.

ahead of the curve i tells ya.

Even if the cars were amazing, I doubt most of the keyboard wankers would come out.

They want Misa Campo, Stephanie Ly and whoever else is the silicon transporter of the day to fulfill their internet fantasies.

Go to a show and see where the crowds are.

You want HIN to be successful here? If success is measured by ticket sales, bring lots of girls. The cars don't mean much here.

We need a SLUTFEST or IMPORTMODELFEST

That should draw a huge crowd. Hot chicks in skimpy clothing dancing on poles. Maybe 10 on stage at a time, then rotate every 2-3 songs. Get like 3 stages going with different music. Then when the chicks want a break, they sell their photos or whatever crap. BOOYAAA!!!! One fucking huge STRIP club.

Man, I wish I was in Vegas again.

some good points here.
Another issue that I personally have with the shows is that the judging isn't about the finest car, but the one with the most parts. I've seen some hideous creations driving out of a show with a trophy. I lost respect for the show scene years ago, and it looks like a lot of others did too.

If you want to enjoy cars, there are still lots of shows around. If you want to see some tarted up tramp dancing around to music with too much bass, go to the Cecil. The days of combining both are over. For now...

So true. Meanwhile, some jaw-dropping minimalist cars, prepped for another purpose are looked over for cars that have the most screens in them, lambo doors, etc. Shit that looked tacky years ago, much less now. But that's the reality of being judged in a point system.

tough call. not enough participants in the local shows, and not enough support for the local shows.

even HIN downsized this year, no seattle show. hate it or love it, those of us trying to keep the local scene alive are stretched...

speaking of supertacky.

I saw a Yellow tiburon (in my eyes, still a pretty nice to look at car). With fishbowl altezzas, lambo doors, and that whole early 90's "custom-yellow-air-vents" that we saw in every riced out car.

Worst of all, it looked like some kid riced out his parents tiburon, as it was a pair of older folks getting out with lambo doors....
