Haney's Farmers Market in Maple Ridge

I had a friend tell me about this event, basically its a public farmers market in Maple Ridge where local farmers gather and sell their food and crafts. Starts on the 9th this Saturday at the Memorial Peace Park.
Kinda interesting how its locally grown foods. I'm thinking of taking a look this Saturday, anyone been to the market before? Experience?

never been to this one specifically, but been to the one at trout lake before. that was kinda cool. however i felt kinda bad for some of the ppl buying the fruits and veggies.

reason is, i worked as a produce boy before, and well, when walking around the market, i saw that their "organic spinach" was infact just beat up regular spinach, came out of the same box. if it truly was organic, it would have been labelled, OR put into maybe a blank container. but the box was regular spinach from one of our local growers.

so its very cool to check out, especially for mushrooms and local rare variety heirloom tomatoes, lots of arts n craft stuff too.

just keep an eye out.

ahh,
Well how big was it when you went to the trout lake one? Is there a lot to see or buy?
I tried looking at their website but the vendor information is pretty limited.

Don't expect too much "local" stuff. Local veggies started about 2 weeks ago, but most of the good stuff isn't quite ready yet, or it will cost a lot.
Berries and soft fruits are not ready until late June/early July.

Because of how bad it was last year, and the economy this year, I expect all farmers to have cut back on how much they grow this year which will mean higher prices than last year.

its been going on forever, there used to be a market that was open everyday year round but it closed down

by local they mean BC

if it was just local there wouldn't be much there aside from blueberries and some chinese vegetables

they block off the community center parking lot.

lots of local arts n crafts, locally made honey, mushrooms, organic, tomatos, some fruits but not much. its more of a community get together type deal.

its like going to granville island quay but its outdoors, and each vendor has a tent, keeping things simple.
