Taking courses at university after graduation (SFU) So I finished all my stuff this Spring '09, and am awaiting my convocation in June. Just wondering, I was thinking of doing the UBC DAP, but my friend also told me, I can go back to SFU after graduation and take the accounting courses there. Anyone heard of this? Is it possible? |

Yes you can. You'll be registered as a nondegree student and will probably register last (Although I'm not sure about this). I would suggest taking what you need at UBC. It'll be a good opportunity to meet other potential bean counters. |
yea, you would get a crappy registration date. most likely the course will be full. |
I think you will be better off doing DAP at UBC if your intentions are going into Accounting. The reason why I say this is because being in an actual accounting program is likely to benefit you in many ways. First, you will be less restricted in terms of enrollment and course availibility. Second, you are more likely to complete professional designation requirements (CGA, CA, CMA) in a timely manner when you are actually in an accounting program. Third, you will be able to build stronger connections with people who have similar aspirations as you. Fourth, the DAP is a credential in itself that is well respected in the accounting field. Lastly, many top firms hire from the DAP program, and being a student you will have access to job fairs and recruitment sessions etc. |
Ohh I see, DAP it is then! Also, I've heard from a friend that a lot of firms, including the Big 4, are reducing the number of their employees by around 20-30%, so with that said, is it still a good idea going into accounting? |
