Core Micro 8Gb SD cards at superstore $19.99

Yeah I dont know if this matters to anyone but they had 8gb SDHC cards Class6 high speed. Core Micro brand.

I figure I was going to spend $20+ on a 4Gb high speed card anyways and even if the 8gb might prove to be a slow card i could always use it as extra storage for whatever. so I picked one up popped it in my D90 and took some shots RAW+JPEG cuz those be nice and huge and recorded some video. works perfectly fine. as far as long term only time will tell and i even forgot to format the card in the camera before using it. got too excite to test out the 50mm f1.8 i picked up

I don't trust them...had too many problems with corruption apparently.

Why would you buy shit card for that price when you can spend 5 bucks more and get a brand name one:

I would never buy no name ones. You don't want them to fail on you especially when you're shooting somewhere half way around the world.

^title says Micro SD..the one you posted is a regular SDHC

niforpix 05-09-2009 01:18 PM

Oh... god damn it... Oh well, either way I wouldn't buy no name memory card especially for my DSLR. DSLRs don't use micro sd cards anyway so what's the point on spending extra money on adapters that come with them?

Speaking of cheap cards, anyone ever use those Transcend ones that they sell on Costco.ca?

niforpix 05-09-2009 02:02 PM

^^ I've actually used those in my phone before and never had an issue... Then again, I used to switch phones every 4 months so I don't really know how long those cards last lol

lilaznviper 05-09-2009 05:23 PM

i think transcend are the original makers of flash drives... according to what i learnt in school

but still i wont use a no name card for my pictures
i will kill meself if i lost some precouos pictures

Core Micro is actually a very large company that makes memory chips for variuous applications. I'm not convinced as to their reliability on a professional level compared to Sandisk or Lexar. I keep getting calls from the Core Micro rep, but so far we've turned them down.

you are better off buying two 4gb than one 8gb. redundancy is key

...unless you have one of the 20+MP cameras. Then you'll want two 8GB cards. Haha..

Hi guys okay this coremicro is only good for taking pics video is no good.

and as for trancend I have a 4gb Trancend 133x SDHC card and it works perfectly with video too 720P 24fps on the D90.

anyone tried OCZ, or Patriot? I only have used Patriot microSD in the Photofast MSProDuo adapter on my PSP. i run 2 8gb and the card only has 500+mb free space but loads games pretty quick even from soft off. I hesitate to get Kingston I bought a 2gb card and it crapped out and nearly bricked my pocket pc and almost killed the built in card reader on my laptop.

Of course it's not good for video. It's a microSD - the data transfer speeds are too low. MicroSD cards are generally in the 5-7MB/sec range. The Sandisk Ultra II 8GB SD sold @ Costco for $44 is 15MB/sec, which is just fast enough for some video.
