How to get gas out of a tank?

So the story is this, my beater van died after eating a very wholesome $80 meal. Now i have a full tank of fuel i want to get out before i call someone to scrap the van.

Anyone have suggestions?

My dad said something about sticking a long enuff tube so that it reach the bottom of the tank and suck the other end until you see the fuel come back up and it will pour out automatically. does this work? I dont want to make it seem like im stealing fuel from my own car and get the neighbours calling the cops on me. :haha:

if you dont want the awesome taste of gas in your mouth, go to walmart and get a siphon pump...think its $4 ?

all you need is a hose and a mint

Why buy a pump when the vehicle already has one? just jumper the relay and re-direct the fuel line into your container? unless of course it was the pump that went, then disregard this =)

^^^^^^^ unless it has a mechanical pump.

What kind of van is it?

If it has an electric fuel pump, use 77civic1200's method.

If it has a mechanical pump or you don't want to hotwire the pump and disconnect the line, use one of these:

It's the cheapest way - probably get one from Princess Auto for under $5.

Also, if you use a syphon and want to get ALL the fuel out, make sure the bottom of the gas tank is higher than the top of the Jerry can.

Hose first, THEN mint.

That'll be a lot of gasoline, make sure you've got more than enough air-tight and safe containers to transfer it to!

or just put it directly into other cars gas tank, i guess thats around 80 litres, would prob take 2 normal cars to finish it.

Just came from WalMart. These are $5 there:

i dont know what that is. whats it called and which aisle is it in?

its a 95 Ford Windstar, anyone with a Ford V6 knows the tranny will die once the mileage gets up there.

fliptuner 05-12-2009 09:41 PM

Well, since you don't know what it is, I don't suggest using the factory pump method.

It's a syphon. You'll find it somewhere in the auto section. Take one end and shove it into your tank til it hits the bottom, stick the other end in a Jerry can, start pumping until the fuel starts flowing.

As has been mentioned, it'll take a while, but just jumper the fuel pump relay and pump the fuel into proper containers.

murd0c 05-13-2009 04:42 PM

be careful when taking out all your gas, good chance there is water and sedamint in the tank so don;t take it all out!

!LittleDragon 05-13-2009 06:11 PM

Drill a hole on the bottom and hope it doesn't spark

TRD3000GT 05-13-2009 06:29 PM
