Call the team Vancouver Orcas

willystyle 05-13-2009 07:38 PM

A few months back, Stern made it public that he doesn't plan to see Vancouver getting another NBA franchise anytime soon.

But again, IMO, it would be stupid NOT to have a NBA franchise here as it has potential to be a GREAT basketball city.

Vancouver Addicts

fanatiX 05-13-2009 07:47 PM

i don't mind seeing them denver nugget thugs in town!

liu13 05-13-2009 07:50 PM

those Pacers will mostly likely remain in Indiana, they are huge ball fans, even though they are more college ball, it's not that hard to sell tickets there

i can see the Bobcats being sold to Vancouver, that would be awesome

pure.life 05-13-2009 07:53 PM

Vancouver Rain Makers!!!

3seriesBeeM 05-13-2009 08:33 PM

heard this on the team 1040 it would be great stu jackson buried our last team with big country and drafting steve francis even though he publicly said I dont want to play in Vancouver. I think we have the fan base for a basketball team if we can make it a good team.

Harvey Specter 05-13-2009 08:41 PM

Not trying to be racist or anything but I can't imagine young black players wanting to play in Vancouver. The city doesn't have a basketball city type vibe.

true, no one wants to play for an expansion team or a crappy team that just moved

i see some steve francis incidents occurring again but if Charlotte can develop a decent bball team, Vancouver should be able to, Vancouver is head over heels better as a city than more than half the NBA teams

Chestnut 05-13-2009 09:01 PM

Vancouver Stoners!

PiuYi 05-13-2009 09:14 PM

FUCK YOU MICHAEL HEISLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

goo3 05-13-2009 09:24 PM

Go Aquaman! Can he afford it? But then the Canucks are like a cash-cow for him right now.

g604 05-13-2009 09:35 PM

Pacers would be nice we can build around granger build around a high tempo team get steve nash coaching lower the ticket prices for the first couple of years i dont see why it can't work.

If a hockey team can survive in nashvile why cant a basketball team survive up here. Up next MLB!!

invader 05-13-2009 09:52 PM

David Stern in an interview never supported the idea of having an NBA franchise in Vancouver.

Too many stupid fuckers were in control of the Griz, thats what led to their demise.

On a cooler note, today is Michael Bibby's birthday, remember him? Griz 2nd overall pick.

Close.... there's no black community here. When I mean black, I mean American Black. Not the fresh of the boat african refugees either. American Blacks look down to these Africans. Like how CBC's look down on newly arrived Asians.

Holy crap GM place was empty. I remember in high school we would sometimes get free tickets to the games and no one would take em, lol.

RTS 05-13-2009 10:47 PM

Basketball can work in Vancouver given the time. Some positives include:

1. Younger Grizzlies fans who can now afford tickets ie. me and a lot of my friends who have traveled as far as Portland to catch games.
2. All the Steve Nash Youth Basketball Alumni
3. Steve Nash could be brought in (player? or exec)
4. SFU/UBC possibly going to NCAA Div 2.

Hope this happens one day.

Nocardia 05-13-2009 11:04 PM

Its pretty tough for any franchise team to stay put without the league's help.

Look at hockey in florida or nashville or phoenix. If teams don't make the playoffs or even become 50% clubs, no one watches. Vancouver is even worse for that because when the canucks do bad, no one pays attention at all.

Grizzlies would still be here if they made the playoffs at least 1 time.

Or if they had traded for Nash when they had the chance. Or if the dollar had been worth more than ~68 cents US.

Too bad Seattle already had a wnba team called the Reign. Vancouver Reign would be a good name. Reignmen?
