Painting coil springs

I picked up a used set of coil springs the other day. The original finish is cracked in certain areas. Picking off a couple of paint flakes revealed some nice rust underneath. I can get rid of that using a wire brush, which brings up the question of repainting or somehow coating the surfaces with a permanent protectant.

A quick search online (including RS) didn't reveal too much useful information.

Anyone with experience/knowledge in this area, what products methods would you recommend for repainting them? My worry is the the flex will destroy any coatings of regular paint.

I can have them shipped to a local shop if that's the best way to go (please list recommendations if this is the case), but would much rather prefer DIY.

Thanks!

you can try to paint it with some really elastic paint...maybe a dupoint paint?
try a rubber coating?
