I used to back in the day when I had the Nokias with the T9 and you can bang out a msg in a few seconds with one hand without looking at the phone but now with a QWERTY, forget it.

We are suggesting texting should be banned while driving to protect those who are incapable of doing so from causing an accident and to protect those who may innocently be involved in the accident. If you as an individual can do it, good for you.

Yes, you are correct that radio, music, reading a map, talkshows, and etc. is using up your attention. However, if you look at your cellphone and think about what to text, it is MORE LIKELY that you will cause an accident. Why will you take the chance and endanger other people's lives? Even if there are no regulations regarding listening to music or reading a map while driving, it is a fact that these activities take away your attention from the road.

If you read all my posts, you will see that I am all for the banning of cell phones because I realize that not everyone can text while driving. Perhaps you should read the entire thread. That way you'll have a lesser chance of making the mistake of accusing me of something I did not do...

Yes I read all your posts. You stated: "Well if that's the case, we shouldn't be allowed to listen to the radio, talkshows, music, read a map, etc etc either because my attention is going somewhat towards all those things..." and since obviously radio, music, reading a map, and etc. aren't banned, by your logic, you are stating that's NOT the case. So, if it's not the case that people text uncomfortably while driving, like what PrincessPeiPei was intending to say, then you are assuming (not stating) it is the case that people text comfortably. That is where I got your assumption.
Also, you "stating" you can text while drive safely doesn't make it valid. It is your assumption and mere chance you have not got into an accident so therefore, you may induce that you are doing it safely. Reading your text at a red light is definitely safer than doing it while your vehicle is moving. However, texting (even without looking at the screen) takes away your concentration, which impairs your judgment. Please be responsible and do not put other's lives at a greater risk.

BAN THAT SHIT!

They need to ban talking on the phone and texting ASAP! Not even Robert Kubica can text and drive at the same time..so how the fuck can you?

In those 1 or 2 seconds that you look down to read a text/write a text the car in front of you can already be stopping.

It absolutely should be banned.

exactly...glad you smartened up

music, etc is an auditory distraction but it's not a big deal. reading a map (and texting) should be done once you're pulled over since it's a visual and mental distraction. talking on the phone is a distraction and i see retard drivers daily. in fact, yesterday i saw some chick merge left and nearly side swipe some guy on a bike because she was on the phone (left ear) and failed to check her blind spot. because there isn't any vigilance against talking on your cell while driving, we accept it. It's a definite distraction and those countries/states/provinces that have recognized have implemented laws to discourage talking while you're driving.

if anybody argues that texting while you're driving is a good thing...straight up - you're a moron. just cut your life now before you end up potentially killing someone else. it seems like more and more ppl get affected by the 'superman syndrome' and think they can do things that can clearly put themselves, or other ppl, at a risk.

Not sure how they are going to "ban" it, its already illegal.

ctsport 05-29-2009 02:27 PM

Yes, it should definitely banned. I've had many near accidents because drivers were not paying attention and talking on their cellphones.

What's worse is that they didn't even notice that they almost ran me over and just kept on talking!

In Taiwan, talking on the cellphone while driving is banned. You will even get ticketed if a traffic cam caught you doing so. I completely support this law!
