What tire size will fit my car??

I have a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe 4cyl

Currently I have 215/45/17 on my car.

Will 225/45/17 fit??

I checked sites like 1010 and tiretrends and they said 215 is the biggest.

My car isn't that low so I'm not concerned about rubbing.

Please help! Thanks

whats the width of ur rim?

ezol 05-28-2009 07:28 PM

4x100 17x7-7.5 42 offset

if its an 00 accord 4cyl, its 4x114.3 you can go up to 19s but 18s would be a good size. 215/45/17 is good width for a 7.5 wide wheel.

I have 215/45/17 right now but their bald and i need new tires. My bro has a set of 225/45/17 he's not using. I was hoping I can use those.. Would it work?

ilvtofu 05-28-2009 09:27 PM

it should fit fine
my car came with 205/60/15?
and 225/45/17 fits on it

ezol 05-28-2009 09:33 PM

Ok Thanks,

What kind/year is your car ?

GordonTse 05-28-2009 09:36 PM

the tire size is so minimal it won't matter. of course it will fit. but your speedo will be off by 1.3% faster. and the total diameter is only 1.3% taller than the 215/45 going to 225/45.

the one in the pic lolz

Correct me if I am wrong....

but 215/45/17 to 225/45/17 is different on width 215 -> 225. The speedo shouldn't be affected at all... It's the profile (45) + diameter (17) that affects the reading, isn't it?

Big_Duke_77 06-01-2009 03:46 PM

ya thats right but his question was about the tires fitting

That's what I thought as well, until I did some Googling on the subject. The tire width does affect the overall diameter. Basically, it has to do with the tire diameter increasing, as the tires spin.

Big_Duke_77 06-01-2009 04:07 PM

that does make some sense but at the same time it would be such a tiny bit it shouldnt effect your speedo and also the weight of the car on the tire would also reduce that amount

^ oic.

http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos

as the calculator indicated, if it reads 100km/s on new tire (225), it's actually 101.44 km/h.

I am sure 1 size wider is not a problem on the same rim. Isn't it right that 17x7-7.5 meaning it will take 7.5 which is plus-1 size and should be no problem?

I didn't know 2000 Accord Coupe OE with 17" rim....

The reason it affects the speedo is because the profile (45) is a percentage.

215/45/17 the profile is 45% of 215. = 96.75mm tire wall height.

First, we'll dissect the dimensions located on all passenger radial tires. We'll use 195/55/15 as an example. The first number represents the width of the tire in millimeters; 195mm (or about 7.7") for our example. The second number represents the aspect ratio of the sidewall compared to the width of the tire. For our example, it is 55, meaning that the sidewall height is 55% of the tire width, 195mm. So we end up with 195mm * .55 which equals 107.25mm for the sidewall height. The third number you should already recognize as the rim diameter measured in inches. We can now calculate the total diameter of the tire/wheel combo. First take the sidewall height and multiply it by 2 to account for the sidewall on either side of the rim (2 * 107.25 = 214.5) and then convert to inches (214.5 / 25.4 = 8.444). Add this to the rim diameter and you'll have the total diameter (15 + 8.444 = 23.444"). Simple, huh?

ilvtofu 06-01-2009 04:22 PM

The width actually does affect the speedo because of sidewall flex, the thinner tire will also have a shorter sidewall, even though the profile is the same The wider the tire, the bigger the circumference
