| Buying Rims From the States
I have looked into this site http://www.discounttiredirect.com/
just wondering if anyone has any experience in dealing with them?
or is there any other sites that u guys recommand?
they are going to charge 60 dollars on top of each tire for the custom fee, thats pretty expensive, is there a way around it(besides having a US postal office address)??

if i do the paperwork myself would it be cheaper than 60 dollars per tire?

$60 is most likely brokerage, and you cannot get around that unless you drive to the US and pick them up.
I paid $60 total brokerage for my wheels and tires, yet it was one shipment.

yeah i figured, but the site is charging me 60 per rim, thats like 240 in total...
for like 500 dollar rims (all 4) 240 is pretty significant..

Buy Canadian, or ship to a US address (Point Roberts) then cross the border and bring them back yourself.

thanks in advance | Discount Tire is very reputable. They actually have retail stores in Washington State if you want to go to an actual store.
You can also check out TireRack which is also another large tire/wheel online store. They don't have a physical store anywhere but they do have preferred stores that you can have your wheels shipped to for installation.
The advantage of TireRack is that you won't have to pay state sales tax as it has no presence in WA state (if you choose to go to WA to pick them up).
Discount Tire has stores in WA, hence you will have to pay local sales tax (in the vicinity of 8% although you'll have to check the local county sales tax rate to find out for sure).
If you ship it up to Canada, you'll have to pay the sales tax and any duties that may be incurred. From what I've heard, TireRack also ships to Canada and shipping rates include taxes, duties, etc.

However, I'm sure the border guards there know exactly why people go over, so you'll probably be under a bit more scrutiny going over to Pt Roberts. You'll have to declare everything that you buy in the US.

this is actually my first time buy such a big ticket item..so yeah..i actually have no clue what to do..
i am okay paying like extra 100 dollars. but 240 thats very significant in terms the rims i am buying..

I say just buy it from the states. With the dollar getting closer to parity every day, it'll probably be much cheaper. Tack on the duties and taxes, and I suspect you'll still be better off.
If DTD has your wheels, then you can order them online, or you can see if the stores in the US have them. That way, you can go in and perhaps get a test fit done if you wanted or were unsure of fitment, etc. Just call up the Discount Tire in Bellingham and see if they have the wheels you want in stock and make a day trip out of it. (head out to the Outlets and do some shopping, and check out the wheels too)
