Any good AC repair shop? I have a '91 MPV and I think the AC is broken. I think the AC compressor still works. Need to refill the AC gas, may be? I was at Canada Radiator today and they quoted me 200-300 for retro fitting..... damn... it's already like the market price of this van. I was at Lordco the other day and they said buying just the gas and hose will be around $60. Anyone got experience with refilling the gas? is it really that dangerous? |

That has been banned in Cananda for some years now. You can use R134a but the AC will not be as cold. To properly retrofit your car's AC for the new stuff, it will cost $200-300. Since there might be a leak in your A/C, just filling it up not work as the leak is still there, assuming there is a leak. |
cool-it in bby. i'm too lazy to find the contact info but it's been posted here before. but what sumaznguy said stands. be happy it's only $200-300 because for one of my dad's old cars he was quoted $800 to convert :o |

If your van only needs a recharge and/or you don't care if you drop $50 bucks buy the recharge kit at CT or Walmart (called Redtek at CT, can't remember the name for the Walmart one but it'll look exactly the same).. It comes with 2 cans of refrigerant and a hookup hose with gauge and it will work for both R134a and R12 systems. I used it in my beater Probe (R12) and it's freaking cold no problems since, same thing with in my friend's Integra which is R134a :) |
It is hard replacing the gas? I have my 90's 740 Volvo that is out of gas. You can hear the hissing when you turn it on. Anyone know the particulars about this one? |
How long usually before a car needs a recharge for their AC? The AC for my Yaris doesn't feel that cold... and it's like 3.5 years old. How do I know what kind of recharge I need? |
^ R134a and should be recharged every 2 - 3 years. Edit: Word on the street is that R134a will soon be replaced by another variant. It will be banned formally in the EU planned for 2011. |
how do you know what type of ac is a 95 eg? and how hard is it to use the DIY AC charge kit from CT? , and where do you hook it up to? |

That being said, check under the hood of your car. There should be a silver sticker with black lettering that will say R134a. R12 was banned starting Jan 1 1996, so there is a chance that your eg will be R12, but I think is more likely going to be R134a. Checked google, and yes the 1994 and up Civics use R134a. The DIY recharge kits should have instructions on how to recharge your A/C. Speaking of which, I think it is time to get my A/C recharged. Damn it. Another cost that I need to pay. |

You could cross the border and get a R134a refill kit. |
That kit is compatible with both R12 and R134a systems. |
