4-AG powered ae86 failing aircare

so my 4-AG failed aircare.

theres a new cat in the car, distributor, plugs all changed.

now im lacking a sensor. i found a bolt that kind of covers a hole on the intake manifold facing the fire wall. got any idea what kind of sensor it is? temp sensor?

i noticed that a few vaccum lines are blocked off, so is the car lacking EGR?

my car failed only the NOx test, maximum allowable @2600, my result being 3700.

on a side note, the car was originally an ae85, but with wiring and engine swapped from a corolla gts.

anybody familiar with these cars?

Sounds like, by your description of missing/blocked ports as well as aircare reading as a EGR.

tofu1413 06-06-2009 11:22 PM

i didnt swap in the motor myself, neither the last owner did...

with several vaccum lines missing, is it safe to assume that i lack an EGR system of sorts?

You don't NEED an EGR to pass Aircare.

is the timing advanced? stock compression or is the engine modified? how about the cat, is it a 2 or 3 way? high nox means the exhaust is too hot, to put it simply. and an EGR valve lowers the temperature greatly

tofu1413 06-07-2009 03:29 PM

stock compression, but im not sure about the cat. should be a two way.

exhaust being too hot eh... wonder if there are EGR parts for the 4age i can buy at the wrecker...

i don't know if it had an EGR valve, but if it did, i would start there. my car doesn't have an EGR valve and my nox was at like 1400 when i got it aircared last week. so for next time, i'll probably need a new cat. i have a shitty 2 way right now, i'll probably get good 3 way for next year. the timing isn't advanced, and the engine is stock! good luck

thanks!

but hate to admit it, i was driving her really hard for 20mins before i went.. T_T

but i am missing a temp sensor on the intake manifold.. maybe im running too rich too...

nickmak 06-07-2009 08:07 PM

you want the car warmed up when you get it aircared. you could be running rich, but your CO and/or HC would be higher too

tofu1413 06-07-2009 10:15 PM

its CO and Hc levels are way below max... @_@
