Help ! Cannot Boot =S Story : I don't know what my sister did but somehow her operating system wont boot up. I tried using the recovery dvds but they didn't work. So i just decided to hook up her hard drive into mine. I then used R-studio to retrieve all her wanted files (and place them on my hard drive) and then proceeded to use Partition Magic 8 to format her drive and try to reinstall windows from there. So .. formatting. I restart my comp (using my hard drive) and it runs fine past the boot time diagnostic screen and it just displays a blank screen. Again, I try to use recovery dvds but it wont boot them. I think that PM 8 formatted my hard drive as well but I'm not sure. Any advice on what to do ? |
if you have recovery cds why would u format the drive with partition magic anyways boot with an OS cd and see if the partition is still there if its still there its possible to do a repair install of the OS to recover from it or put it into another computer and check |
so does her computer work after the format? sounds like maybe your sister got some wack virus that cock-blocks recovery DVD's, and passed it on to you when you copied her files? |
sounds like he nailed it ^ .. man.. that gotta suck |
Hope that isn't true... I'd hate to hear that you lost all your files. Always do a virus scan before copying files. Although some virus will copy itself to another hard drive once it's connected to a computer. Feel sorry for you dude. |
well since you haven't replied yet I should add I think your best bet is this. using the computer you're on now, copy all useful files off of it NOW. put your HDD with all your files and your sisters files into this computer now that it holds nothing relevant. virus scan the files and burn them to DVD's BEFORE you restart this computer. don't let it restart between when you install the HDD and when you finish burning DVD's of your files. now reformat your HDD and the one in the computer you're on now. put your HDD back, reinstall windows onto both computers and put the files back on the computer you're using now. slowly put the files back onto your computer but scan them with a different virus scanner again to be safe. restart your computer a few times to be sure it's clean and good to go. if so put your sisters files back on her computer as well. also ask your sister if there's anything she downloaded prior to the shit hitting the fan. anything she can remember getting in the last few days, delete. |
