car deck install question

I have a newbie question.

I have an alpine cd deck installed in my car right now. If i want to change to pioneer, Sony or JVC cd deck. Do i have to buy new wire harness ? Can I just pull alpine out and plug in the new deck without any modification?

Definitely need a new harness, unless your comfortable rewiring the deck's harness yourself which you don't sound like your capable of doing. only like 15 bucks at FS or best buy

Or at a sponsor shop for less.

There are several different Alpine harnesses available so it really depends on what you have and what you want.

Its fairly easy to do a harness swap. Usually 11 wires...should take no more than about 10-15 minutes max. A local sponsor shop wouldn't charge too much to do that.

Depending on the car, it's usually pretty simple. If you can manage to get the old alpine out, cut off the adapter, then match up the wire colors and connect them. Then snap the harness adapter to the factory harness, slide the deck back in.

Some cars are a pain in the ass.

If unsure, leave it to the pros. Otherwise you may accidentally wreck something else and pay 3x more to fix the problem. (Speaking from personal experience).

are there any shops in town that can repair a broken motorized faceplate possibly due to broken flex cable from over usage.

I don't see why its absolutely necessary for a new harness. Assuming there's enough wire after cutting them, why not just cut it off and re-splice the harness onto the new deck's wires?

Pretty simple too, most of the time the colours are standardized, so you just have to match the appropriate colours together.

is JVC kd-avx11 worth the asking price of $249.99. The price is for a brand new unit.

Kenwood deck?

I usually bring all my stuff to Japan Electronics or Nippon Audio Video.

its alpine cda-9851, suspect the flex cable is broken resulting motoroized faceplate malfunction.

In that case Japan electronics. They handle Alpine warranty.

wasabisashimi 06-18-2009 11:06 AM

do you have contact information on japan electronics? address, phone number...etc

catalin 06-18-2009 12:32 PM

That deck isn't worth that much any more. I would suggest getting a new one with a warranty and more options.
