saw the most horrific thing today...
 

it was so terrible i thought i should share. didn't know where else to put this though so i posted here...

today i saw a newer honda civic with a mom and her kid at chevron gas station. she was washing the entire car with a windshield squeege, and her son was doing his best to copy her.

when she instructed him to "scrub harder or else the dirt won't come off!" i just had to leave :cry:

anyone else have horror stories?

When I see my neighbors use ONE BUCKET!

I was in the domincan and there was a guy washing his car with his hands and the muddy water from a run off stream...but thats the dominican...

I was down by 54th and Kerr and there was a guy washing his van with a bucket and a small probably about 5 inch by 5 inch rip off of a shirt. The worst part was that next to his bucket was a bottle of liquid tide detergent...

lol.. my back yard neighbors used 1 bucket for the exterior and interior of their Benz R500. Even though they changed the water for the interior, I was still pretty speechless.

Yeah just like there's nothing wrong with letting the dealership wash your car:thumbsup:

Some dealerships do a good job on washing cars. SOME, not all...when i was working that is...

i once had a classmate who owned an integra since new, with one of those dealer applied wax packages/sealant. he only used liquid dish soap detergent to wash it!

he was religious in going to the mandated "inspections" the service dept. told him to come by to maintain the warranty on the sealant package, and for the 5 years he had owned it and i'm astonished to say it still looked good right up to the day he sold it :o

Doesnt dish soap strip off wax and sealant?
Or just wax?

i thought it was just wax... but he's never used wax. at all. he thought it didn't need it if the sealant was on the car. i used to chew him out over it but after so many years i couldn't argue the fact it still looked good (well not ken-blessed porsche good) :confused:

I saw someone washing their car with their snow brush today. :D

well, yesterday i came across something atrocious......it was a 03-04 nissan altima in a gold colour, that looked like it was scrubbed with a scotchbrite pad....i was so shocked....this was bedded in...like that car has never seen a layer of wax or sealant...the feel was rough like primer and the scratches...my god.

Some people just REALLY dont care about their cars :(

funny u should mention this. i saw an older 2dr dodge avenger parked in the metrotown T&T underground lot yesterday. it was black in color... or at least i think it was black, because it was so heavily scratched and had buff marks so deep it looked grey under the dim underground lighting... i can't imagine what this thing would look like in the daylight :rolleyes:

Thats like the 2 year old black Avalanche I just finished. Came in for a single stage polish and after washing and claying, the damage was so severe it looked like the owner had been washing it weekly with a garden rake. Worst case of wash inflicted damage I've seen in 16 years.

Actually, you can wash your vehicle with a brush and inflict little if not zero damage. Treat the brush ( spend the money on a good one with flagged bristles or boars hair) as you would your mitt. Don't put it on the ground, use a grit guard and rinse thoroughly when you're done.

i used jets pads the last time i washed my 92 Lemans. nice and white.

man i see so many people wash there car improperly, i just dont care.. even if my friends do it i wont say anything.. not worth the time and hassle

Actually this does seem to work quite well. I used to do it all the time on spots where the dirt was just caked on. The only reason I don't do it now is because it looks horrible when it dries.

Mind you, certain older cars (80s, 90s) had better and tougher paints than modern cars.
