Whats wrong? No matter how many times i format my hdd, my windows gets screwed over. i just formatted the main partition and reinstalled vista home prem. installed all my drivers, but when i install windows messenger or ms office 2007, my computer decides to get fuked. At first, everything works fine, but later msn nor office works. Right away, when i try to turn the program on, it says windows live messenger has stopped working. if i wanna uninstall, it says windows live installer has stopped working and it doesnt allow me to uninstall. i have used the same (cd)version of windows, and ms office for a while now and this usually did not happen. no matter how many times i format now, i get the same problem if i install msn or msoffice, or adobe reader. whats wrong? could there be a virus on the other partition i dont format? or on my external hdd? help!! |
Run chkdsk or any type of hd util programs to check your drive to see if it's failing. If that all checks out run memtest, keep testing until you you single the problem out. |
Are u running a legit ver of windows? |
ATM, the version of windows is legit. although the ISO was downloaded, the cd key is from the bottom sticket from the laptop. the thing is, i have been using the same cd to install windows wether it was legit or not. it worked fine before. Quote:

^ it can happen when memory fails too.. or when the mobo dislike the ram just like the one I installed on my co-worker's computer.. it's fine at first.. then suddenly it crashed, pull out the ram.. works fine.. put ram in the other computer.. works fine.. |
its been about 5 month since i replaced ram and the problem started about a month ago. im about to run chkdsk now. so hopefully i can find an error there. brb |
nothing wrong with chkdsk. how to do memtest? is it most likely a hdd problem? |
