true story

fliptuner 06-14-2009 12:23 AM

This happens to me a lot.

As I'm walking down the street or just outside, smoking.

Bum:
Hey, buddy, you got an extra smoke?

Me:
1. I don't smoke.
2. No, none of them are extra. I smoke them all.
3. You got a dollar?

One night while working in the pr0n shop I had a guy come in talking on his cel phone, dressed decently (not bad, not extremely well) and ask me for some money.

This was back in the day when I worked 12 hours a night and went to school just to scrape by. I didn't even have a celphone. Fuck. Seriously, fuck that shit.

JV6 06-14-2009 03:14 AM

I know a girl who helps her mom at their hair salon and she told me least a dozen homeless got balls to walk in and ask for spare money.

will068 06-14-2009 03:34 AM

I just tell them I owe my bank a $700,000 loan. I then ask them a few dollars off their welfare cheque. Afterwards, I just give em a

i hate that. when your car is nice and clean and they 'clean' your window and leave streaks on it.

Once when I was back in Vancouver I came out of the liquor store on Alberni? on a summer evening and a homeless man asked me for money. I said I had none, but I'd have a cold beer with him. He agreed and we drank and talked for like half an hour while I waited for my buddies to call me haha.

I've run into mostly courteous pan handlers, only one aggressive who tried to attack be at the BK down at Main and Terminal. For the most part, they seem harmless, but after the one tried to attack me, I've stopped caring about their well being and started worrying more about my safety.

I'm in line at the 7-11 and they're begging everyone for change. I'm driving down the street and they don't even offer to clean windows anymore, they just come hammering on windows for money.

The coup de gras came today when I was crossing the street. Seriously, thats all I was doing. Crossing the street.
One of them kept getting in front of me like he was trying to collect some sort of junkie crosswalk tax.

Anyone finding they have problems with this trash?

this isn't some e-wang thing - but are you not very big? i've never seen any panhandlers get in my way, and NEVER touch me, but then again, i'm 6'7" and thus would tower over any bum (bums always seem to be short, guess its the malnutrition)

feel free to knock them out, seriously

ws6ta 06-14-2009 11:00 AM

i never give them money unless they have a dog (I feel bad for the dog not the bum) or if they have some hilarious sign like...TOO UGLY TO BE A PROSTITUTE NEED CHANGE FOR FOOD lol

If they get aggressive its because they think they can. If you give them a look like your going to kick the few teeth they have out of their mouth they won't even ask you for change...

124Y 06-14-2009 11:14 AM

I rarely give them money unless they at least show an effort to earn some money by singing, playing an instrument, or squeegie the car. Most of them don't even fuckin bother trying to get a job.

I'm 5'11 and would love to, but at the risk of cross posting; I don't want any more legal issues like I mentioned in the "Bad Police Encounters" thread

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 06-14-2009 02:43 PM

hunny, you need to move out of downtown :P

Psykopathik 06-14-2009 03:58 PM

never give em money EVER. give to a homeless shelter if you must.

pure.life 06-14-2009 04:39 PM

I was out eating Donair with a friend just across Harbour Center.

Suddenly, a hobo came asking for a change but I told him I spent them all on my Donair.
Then he said some shit and gave me this shrug and disappointed look like if I was supposed to give him money.

GET A JOB! You have limbs for Gods sake. They were given to you for a purpose!

ilvtofu 06-14-2009 05:09 PM

I was just standing outside future shop on robson, and this homeless person gets really close to my friend, asking her when the Bus comes, I told him in 5 mins, and he still walks closer to my friend who is backing off. We just crossed the street when the light changed and he stayed there though, Probably spotted my 24" pythons and backed off.

This aggressive panhandling act is going to be interesting next year for the Olympics.

XxFcukxX 06-14-2009 07:49 PM
