BBQ tank refill???

Not sure if this is the right place but I thought I would try.

I ran out of propane last night just as I was about to BBQ.
So I thought np I will just go fill it up. Well I went to Esso and they said if you have an exchange tank its $28 if you dont its $60 with your old tank to swap. I gave him a dirty look and left. I drove all over but every station seemed to have the pre filled tanks only. Is there still a place where you can get your tank filled up? I just got it last year so its new and only has had one fill.
How can Costco sell the tanks if there is no place to fill it up. I am in Bby but is there any place that someone might know of. If I have to wait till Monday np I just need a place.

Thanks in advance

I filled mine at the husky on victoria between 49th and 54th. Just have to look for gas stations that sell propane ie. husky's and super save.

If you bring it to superstore i think its under 25 to exchange for a new tank and 55 to buy a new tank

azzurro32 06-14-2009 10:32 AM

husky no.3/blundell $19

lilaznviper 06-14-2009 10:46 AM

GodZilla 06-14-2009 12:13 PM

Where's a good place to get an 8(ish) lb tank?

Canadian tire charges $60 for an empty 8 lb tank, which is more than an empty big tank. Seems a bit unreasonable.

I thought I saw costco does it for about $10.. could be wrong or it could just be up here

ajax 06-14-2009 02:57 PM

if you have a shitty old tank you could always trade for a nice new one!;)

I refill mine at Husky!

I found another place, Mohawk at the corner of Canada Way and Smith a block off of Boundary in Burnaby.
They have a huge tank on the west side of the lot.

petro in Champlain village kerr and 54th I believe, depending on tank but filled up mine for $18

hotjoint 06-15-2009 08:06 AM

I fill mine at the petro near by

shenmecar 06-15-2009 12:05 PM

JUST saw this at the noon hour news on Global

Most refill places are charging the same amount for LESS propane. They justify by saying it is to compensate for the high cost of propane, even though the price for propane has dropped. =_=

There's no Costco's in Vancouver that offer Propane service.

The Auto body shop near Renfew and 1st does refills for $20 for a 20lb tank.

Shun Izaki 06-19-2009 06:26 PM

Propane tanks are a bitch... but there's smaller gas stations like husky and stuff that will do it cheaply.

I bought a new BBQ a few weeks ago and tried to use the old tank I had sitting around. It was near empty. Looked at the date on the tank. It expired a few year ago. Went to Home Depot where they have the tank exchange thing (cheapest place). Got a new tank that doesn't expire for another 10 years. I used that up yesterday, so I went to the nearest gas station with propane fillup. Cost me just under 16 bucks.

As for Costco and Canadian Tire filling up tanks here in the Lower Mainland, I have yet to see a location that does.

BTW, I went to Lake City Autogas. The place refills propane tanks, has biodiesel, and other weird shit.

You can find propane fill stations by company station locators. For example, Petro Canada. Do a search for station with cylinder refills. I just did one for stations within 50 kms of Vancouver.

EDIT: You know what's really funny? I cannot find many in Richmond. I wonder why that is? Does Richmond have some by-law against propane?
