I went to Langley for my stepbrother's wedding and we stayed at the Coast hotel which has the casino. After dinner last night, I went down to play some $1/$2. The place was packed because the bad beat jackpot was up to $175,000. I got on the list behind 52 other people and then proceeded to burn off $300 on roulette in the 3 hours it took me to get my seat. Finally got in at like 11:30. I played a long session and at around 9:00 AM I had about $900 in front of me. We had breakfast plans at 10:00, so I was getting ready to go. Then I get all in with KK against AA and give away $350, so I go on tilt a bit and decide to stick around for a few more rounds to try and get some chips back.
At about 9:30, I decided that it was my last round, and then I picked up AK in cutoff position. I raised to $15, and the guy beside me reluctantly called. Flop came out A33. I bet $30, buddy called. Turn came another Ace, giving me Aces full. I check, hoping to trap him, but also fairly certain that he had the other Ace. He checked behind. Then a King came on the river, upgrading my full house to Aces full of Kings. I bet out $50 and he called. I roll over my cards and buddy flips over his 33 and says "we got it". Obviously the table goes nuts and the whole casino starts crowding around.
Since I was the one that received the bad beat, I got half of the jackpot for a little over $87,000. The guy that beat me got 25% of the pot for about $44,000, and everyone else at the table split the other 25% for around 5k each. And as customary, the guy with the quads tipped the dealer the entire pot. I donated the rest of my stack ($400ish) to the dealer as well. Pretty intense. It still hasn't entirely sank in. |
