Probably an old Vonage adapter or an adapter from one of the other VoIP providers.

I used Vonage for about a year. It was alright for the price, but since I was using it for business, the echo and the occasional dropping of audio was unacceptable so I cancelled it when the contract was up. I'm not sure if OP is using something like Vonage, but there was a big debacle a few years ago about Shaw throttling Vonage's VoIP service in an effort to promote their phone service. (i.e. essentially make Vonage look bad)

The Phone adapter with router, Linksys SPA2102-R, I want to unlock so i can turn off provisioning because it resets my connection every once in a while which is retarded.

I've had VOIP for almost 2 years now. It was awesome until recently my internet through the linksys router is really slow. Not sure if the router is messed or not. I had to go and get a landline for the enterphone and alarm monitoring so VOIP is kinda useless to me now.

VOIP is awesome if you can setup things like SIP trunking, esp if you call overseas alot.

For exp, i have a box in HK and a box here.

It basically dials the HK box using a VOIP connection, and I get a dial tone, and bam. Local calling. There's no "provider" like vonage or anything like that... but i never had a need for a regular phone through VOIP... my cell + my sip trunking is all i need :P
