I used Vonage for about a year. It was alright for the price, but since I was using it for business, the echo and the occasional dropping of audio was unacceptable so I cancelled it when the contract was up. I'm not sure if OP is using something like Vonage, but there was a big debacle a few years ago about Shaw throttling Vonage's VoIP service in an effort to promote their phone service. (i.e. essentially make Vonage look bad) |

I've had VOIP for almost 2 years now. It was awesome until recently my internet through the linksys router is really slow. Not sure if the router is messed or not. I had to go and get a landline for the enterphone and alarm monitoring so VOIP is kinda useless to me now. |
VOIP is awesome if you can setup things like SIP trunking, esp if you call overseas alot. For exp, i have a box in HK and a box here. It basically dials the HK box using a VOIP connection, and I get a dial tone, and bam. Local calling. There's no "provider" like vonage or anything like that... but i never had a need for a regular phone through VOIP... my cell + my sip trunking is all i need :P |
