Ordered a custom gaming tower... $630 after taxes... opinions? I will try and assemble it all tonight but this is what i got all brand new: ATi Radeon 4670 1gig DDR3 video card Intel SKT775 motherboard Seagate 500gig SATA 3gb 7200rpm HDD Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.80 3mb cache 1066fsb Kingston DDR2 2gig 800mhz x 2 for total of 4gigs LG DVDrw lightscribe Antec Sonata III w/500W pwr supply I am pairing that to an LG 22" LCD and it's SOLE PURPOSE IN LIFE will be to: -surf the net -download assorted goodies -play WoW so i can stop complaining about FPS in Dalaran! after taxes and stuff... $630 not including the monitor of course.. what you guys think? 3yr warranty on ALL components with the exception on the RAM which is lifetime. ANY TIPS on building it all up? it's been YEARS since i've built a PC after using these GAMING notebooks for the longest time. |
not a bad build. probably could have gone a better route choosing a non-intel motherboard. In the event you decide to overclock your pc, you would be SOL. For what you need to do in your list, your build will be more than fine. |
could have got a 4850 or 250 instead of 4670 and you would get a lot more gaming performance ATI: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...3&promoid=1025 NVIDIA: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...A&promoid=1025 |
Phenom II will probably cheaper and faster |
well i kinda went over budget lol.. didnt want to spend more than $500 but that was a bit of an unrealistic figure. The vidcard is quite sufficient for WoW with framerates reaching up to 70 or higher in certain areas while in Dalaran last night with a pretty busy load on silvermoon, was getting 40fps average. Previously on my Toshiba A200-TH7's aTI 2600, the FPS would drop to maybe 10-15fps when it was as busy as last night at Dalaran. The vid card was a mere 86bux ..and performs quite well actually.. the case itself is very quiet. Aside from my initial screwup with those stupid mini connectors that are for the front LEDs..all went smooth. Not really concerned with overclocking as my primary uses have all been met with considerable speed. QUESTION: 500gig HDD, should I partition it? if so.. i've installed xp home on the rig.. anything I can use without having to reinstall the o/s? |
partition magic or arconis disk doctor come to my mind. |
All that new hardware, and you're using XP? |
