My alternator went, how to fix? The alternator on my 1990 Integra GS took a shit I think. I put my ohm meter on the output of it and its not pushing a single volt. Its been acting up for a few days now. Is there any other cars that share the same alternator?? I need to go to the wreckers in the morning to find something and there isnt many integras out there. also, how do I go about replacing this? Is there a fast easy way... er... do I need to pull the tire and cv shaft. |
yeah you need to take out the drivers side driveshaft. i'd try to unbolt the alternator and the bracket behind it first (the bracket that's attached to the block) and you might have enough room to squeez the alternator out above the driveshaft, but i doubt it. also, you could get the alternator rebuilt, but i wouldn't know where to get that done in kelowna. |
I dont have access to any pricing at this time of night, but any rough ideas what an cheap reman alternator is worth for this particular vehicle at lordco/naps etc?? is it like a $80 or $250 type thing |
i think its around $200 minus $40 or $50 with a core for a reman. i might be thinking of starters though. |
^ They're about the same. Call and look around town to see if there are any shops the specialize in remanufacturing starters and alternators. Chances are, they'll do a better job than what you'll find at Lordco and offer a warranty. I would suggest not to rip one out from a used/wrecked car. |
The alternator will just barely squeeze through, without removing the left axle and removing the alt bracket and left under splash shield. But it' s got to come through at just the right angle. Almost like a puzzle. I know Honda carries re-man alternators, and i'm sure Acura would too. Napa i think carries new alternators, although not genuine part. but still it's new. From what i remember, the prices from Napa and the dealer are comparable with Lordco If you're feeling brave, you can pick up a set of brushes from a local alternator/starter rebuid shop and just replace those yourself. Usually around $25. Often, (not always) that fixes it. |
well to answer your OP question on how to fix. replace it. anyways |
