Is this worth it?

No, definitely not for a body that needs that much TLC
and almost 300k on it
gonna need a full paintjob which is gonna be more than half the cost of the car right there

Only good thing about it is the rebuilt engine, but this doesn't look like a $4000 car and ones with lower mileage wouldn't need the rebuild anyways.

Although i shouldn't talk about needing rebuilds, my car has clearly had an agressive owner as the engine was rebuilt at 150k! fairly decent engine too!

also hatchback is much more desirable in case you ever want to sell it

CanadaGoose 06-20-2009 09:55 PM

LOL no

Talk about initial D tax...

Volvo-brickster 06-20-2009 09:59 PM

dude...its a car that people idolize because of a cartoon

OF COURSE IT IS WORTH IT !

ilvtofu 06-20-2009 10:06 PM

right in the end u've got a corolla, and not even an 86!

B-DiZzLe 06-20-2009 10:07 PM

IMO I wouldn't offer anything over $500

Qmx323 06-20-2009 10:26 PM

even my car is probably worth more, that isnt even the hatchback

ilvtofu 06-21-2009 06:07 AM

Well any engine that runs as well as this recently rebuilt and has decent clutch is worth more than $500. Fix up the body and I'll take it for $3,000, but in the condition it's in right now, it's not desirable and not worth the 4k

asian_XL 06-21-2009 07:47 AM

you can pick up a miata at 4K, get a red one, so it matches the one in Initial D...lol

I found the same ad on Dori-Kaze with more details and pictures. Head over to DK if you want to view pictures, I don't know the guy and I don't want to hot link it here.

The engine was rebuilt by a well known guy who rebuild a lot of 4AGEs for race and street. The Stage II and III cam combo on this particular engine is a popular setup that yields more low-mid rpm power without the need to increase the compression, while still being able to pass aircare.

Interior condition is typical for a 23 year old car. From the pictures, no rips in the seats, just that hole in the carpet that was noted in the ad. It's not mint, but everything looks to be in good shape.

Exterior, rust on the usual spots for these cars, like at the bottom of the fenders and quarter panels. Also some color mismatching going on.

Suspension, to be honest, are just a set of lowering springs with replacement shocks.

So is it worth $4000? No, more like $2000 IMO. All this car has is just a nicely rebuilt engine, everything else is either stock or worn. If you're looking for a fun beater or a drift slut, this could be good, provided you can talk the price down. If you're looking for a base to build up from, look else where, unless you've got deep pockets.

not worth it for the amount of money you will have to put into it
