Blue/red ones only let certain light in (in this case blue for left and red for right etc). Thereby creating the distotion that it's actually two diff images that your brain puts together into a 3-d like image. It's polarization at it's best!

The black ones are actually using same principle, but instead of colors of lights, they use different horizontal/vertical lines, so as not to tinge the image in any way
