I was watching CNN other day and they mentioned something about some terrorist attacked some oil refineries and torched them.

I forgot the details. Maybe it has something to do with that.

If you buy gas now. What are you gonna do the next follow week. Not buy it? lol.. You still gotta buy it regardless the price. Unless you're talking about bringing in 10 Jerry cans and filling them up.

gas companies always makes up an excuse to jack up the price...sure...do you really believe its supply and demand...talk to opec about that...its about controlling the price and ensuring the ceos and directors get the extra million in bonus money

Meowjin 06-30-2009 08:59 PM

canadian regulators won't let that happen.

bcrdukes 06-30-2009 11:21 PM

Ummm...I just saw it at 107.9 5 minutes ago and I filled up on that earlier today 8 hours ago.

If someone offered you $15000 for your car and someone offered you $20000 for you car who would you sell too? If people are willing to buy gas at $1.50 why sell it for less?

^Isn't there a law against marking up prices to a certain amount for protection of the consumers?

Benz_05TSX 07-01-2009 03:40 AM

If there is.. it's not enforced.

Up until recently, the price of oil per barrel was pretty cheap... gas SHOULD have been around 70 cents a litre, even with all our taxes on it. But, it was sitting around a dollar all this time...

I saw a Pokemon card on Ebay for $300. I don't think it's worth $300 but some do. In Canada you can charge what ever you want for a product.

On Ebay yes you can charge $10,000 for a pair of socks and get away with it. However, rational consumer in a free market will always go for the best (lowest) ask price. Therefore just because a seller/business can charge $xxx for something doesn't mean they should if they want to be in business for the long run. I am just speaking purely from the marketing perspective. But there are also laws in Canada protecting consumers from predatory pricing so no you cannot as a business charge anything you want and get away with it.

That was my point. you can charge what ever you want but if no one buys it you would go broke.

No. Retailers can sell their goods for whatever price they want. Just that if they set it higher than others, nobody would buy it from them.

However, there IS a law that prevents retailers from colluding with each other to artificially mark the prices up together.

I mean, if an individual gas station decided to mark it up to $1.40/L, then obviously everyone would go to another gas station to fill up.

But if that gas station owner called up all the other gas station owners in the area and made a deal so that they all jacked it up to $1.40/L, then that's illegal.

Just put in gas at 10pm ish for 104.9

don't know what the OP was trying to get at...Do you own a gas station or something man?

Benz_05TSX 07-02-2009 02:42 AM

^ Same here!! 104.9 baby!!!....but Supreme was still 119 or 117. And I filled up my mom's car, my car is still empty :(

Also, not every chevron was doing 104.9, only the one near night market. The one on No.3 and No.2 was still 113.9
