Jl vs Alpine

Hey guys what do u think is better for a alpine type x 10 inch

JL Audio 500/1v2 or MRP-M1000 alpine ???

Manic! 07-02-2009 01:16 AM

The Alpine puts out 2x more power. Go Alpine.

Frost 07-02-2009 01:25 AM

yea but ppl keep telling me some how Jl 500 /1v2 is better cause its built better and pumps more power then the 1000 alpine amp. Is it a bunch of bs or is it true ?

Wattage is only one factor to look at while shopping for an amp. Signal to noise ratio, damping factor, THD, how they rate it (CEA-2006), impedence stability, reliability factor, reputation, contry of origin, all need to be weighed in.
The 500/1 won't put out 1000 watts, but the sound will be superior to the Alpine.
If I were you, I'd be looking at putting 1200-1700 watts to that sub to maximize it's potential.

What kind of car is it going into?

JL Audio amp is higher quality, sounds more superior. Sounds fuller.

The Alpine won't be a precise sounding but be quite a bit louder.

Is it going into a sealed box or a ported box?

if it were me out of those 2 i'd go with the alpine.. problem is the sub is only a 4 ohm sub.. tough to get power out of an amp running at 4 ohm's.. that alpine amp may be 1000 watts at 2 ohms but with that sub it will be running at 4 ohms so you are only going to see 600 watts rms out of that amp with a 1000 watts rms sub.. it will work but it would be louder with more power

The Type X's are all DVC 4's. 1000 watts at 2 ohms is pretty good for that sub especially in a ported enclosure.

whats a jumper? lol

just hook up both coils to the sub.. 2 pluses on the sub to the 2 pluses on the amp.. 2 negatives on the sub to 2 negatives on the amp..

also on the amp side it doesnt matter that they are going to their own connection since it is a mono amp so its bridged inside but to you that probably doesnt make any sense so just do what i said in my previous paragraph lol

The Alpine subs usually come with jumpers but they are just for convenience. Running a wire to each - and + coil (parallel) like Craig said, will be all you need to do for that amplifier/sub combo.

is that correct, so ur saying i dont need to jumpers either rite so just hook up a positive and negative

CraigP 07-15-2009 05:05 PM

i'd do it differently but yes that would work..
