Telus launches Satellite TV service (HD as well)

I know people hate Telus here but this is a pretty good deal right now as they've just soft launched a new Satellite TV service.

Basically it's a re-packed Bell Express Vu service (they signed an agreement for telus to distribute the service in western Canada) but you can bundle it with your home phone or internet to save more money.

http://www.telus.com/portalWeb/appma...dex&_region=BC

some quick info:

- you can have up to 6 PVR boxes in a house
- basic package starts at $33, including 20 something HD channels
- free installation (setting up the dish and etc)
- free PVR or non-PVR HD receiver depending on term of contract, or you can go month-to-month and pay a rental fee
- same quality as Bell Express Vu

This is not to be confused with their "other" TV Service, the IPTV-based Telus TV. I'm using that one right now and am only limited to 1 HD box and 1 HD stream at a time, but it is really cheap so I'm going to stick with it for a bit longer and see how this new satellite TV thing goes.

Just thought I'd spread the news so all of you Shaw / Rogers users can use this as a bargaining chip to get better deals on your existing services :D

I love how TSN and Sports net are on 2 different theme packs. I'm hopping one day they will go Ala cart so we can pick channels separately.

Bonjour43MA 07-02-2009 11:46 PM

yeah the theme packs are all the same as what Bell has (as far as I can tell) and yeah they're smart to put Sportsnet on a different pack because no one would take the 2nd pack if Sportsnet and TSN are all together! clever bastards.

oh well. decent deals with lots of freebies. Thought some of you might wanna take a look eventhough most people here seem to hate telus with a passion lol.

I wonder if you can use bell receivers with Telus.

once telus has the fibre laid down then it will have the best hd cable ever
bye bye shaw once that happens

Ya I refuse to do contracts for anything other then large loans like mortgages and car notes.

Bonjour43MA 07-06-2009 06:34 PM

you don't need to sign contract these days with Telus anymore....

they've dumped the whole contract thing for their

-phone
-internet
-Telus TV (IPTV)

and now this Satellite service can be had on a month-to-month basis, but you'll need to pay a rental fee for the PVR or you buy it outright.

boy... people DO hate Telus here. lol

I like telus. They aren't that bad. :) I just hate their overseas Tech/CSR support lol.

if you choose a theme pack does that mean all those channels are HD?
Telus was a rip off with my cell phone, so i dont really like using them. Seems like they have a pretty good deal though.

With Bell you have to buy the SD def channels first then pay extra for the HD versions of that channel.

skyxx 07-07-2009 02:35 PM

^ Apparently you don't need to now, You can just subscribe to the Hd channels. I sorta got Jewed by that but I'm only paying 10 dollars extra for More theme packs and most of the Hd channels. I got 40 percent off. Retention line FTW :)

From what I heard Telus is using Bell boxes and rumors are that Telus might be buying out Bell's sat op.
