Why all the fuss?
Dayton's still producing Service Boots in Black Suede/Nubuck - $499 and a variable lead time.
The distressing W+H did was not significant, it just lifts the toe a little. The process seems easily replicable, if so desired. Dayton Boots
I ordered a pair from Dayton and I am very satisfied.

I scuffed mine up a little on a sidewalk, achieves a similar effect albeit not quite as nice. The laces on Dayton's are shorter than Dayton x W+H, but they are not specifically W+H laces, rather they are stock Dayton laces normally used on taller boots.
