How viable is a Dodge Colt/Mitsubishi Mirage Track Car? Say swap in a 4G63T or any other powerplant from the bigger brothers into the car and then gut it, bucket seats, roll cage, decent brakes and tires. Would this be reasonably economical? Or would it be a waste of time/money/effort? I'm thinking of building the cheapest and fastest car to take to the track. Any thoughts? :) |
Cheapest car to take down to the track would probably be a modified civic, but 4G63T are awesomeeeee. Do it ;) |
Only reason I didn't consider a civic was because it is FWD and very common place. I was looking for AWD or RWD and sleeper status. |
How much for the mirage? Is it local? |
I've been looking on craigs and they run for about $500 - $2200 (highest), for the dodge colts. The Dodge Colt GT is bit rarer to find. Any first hand experience from people on revscene on modding these bad boys? I'd assume $~2000 for the stock car, then adding whatever cost it takes to put in the bigger engine. I'll ask around how much the swap usually runs, I've seen a 4g63 long block on craigs for like $700. |

import an EVO 1 2 or 3 /end thread |
A friend of mine who runs at Agassiz used to drive a Colt with the stock engine in the Hornet class. He drives an 88 Prelude now. His Colt ran decently in his class for the car that it was. |

They're FWD. Full conversions have been done but it'll involve a lot of work and cutting/welding. |
Thats a stupid idea, nothing is more bang for the buck than a decent 1g talon. Buddy has one that traps 135mph for under 10k price of car included. |
if it has 4 wheels and goes, ANY car is eligible to be a track car. it doesn't have to be "souped up" or "prepared" for track, just make sure the car passes tech inspection and start lapping! but if you want something cheap and enjoyable, maybe an eg civic is something you might want to look into. doing an engine swap on an older Mirage/Colt might be too much hassle and money if you don't plan on doing it yourself. edit: when you say "track", do you mean drag racing or road racing? |
I heard of AWD variants and will be preparing it for road racing. I'm trying to get an idea if it would be up for being the lead car for a car film actually, that being said I want it to look very plain and be very cheap and but it could logically be tuned to be fast and be able to drive at the level of other more prominent regularly tuned cars. Thanks for the ideas tho, keep 'em coming :) |
Right because a 1g dsm will make you look like such a baller. You may as well go back to hondas with that mentality. |
I'm in the process of a doing a 4G63-T AWD swap into my colt now. Gonna be awesome when its done. There is a thread in the mitsu section. Berz out. |

if you want that sleeper effect still import an EVO123 and then get the hood bumpers and trunk from a local Colt GL so before you mod it it looks like this: http://www.atozautolights.com/images...s/MIMI9396.jpg and after *insert dramatic car modifications in movie style* it becomes like this http://www.dragtimes.com/images/7889...ncer%20EVO.jpg It doesn't have to actually drive slow before the dramatic mod scene u just have to drive it slower lol. |
^^^ that does look pretty intense |
